"Soaring fire, burning spirit! Soaring Sky, set up!"

Lera Camry is a transfer student to Infinity Institute, who earned a reputation as a space cadet because of her strange mannerisms. She claims to be from America, but she seems to have strange ideas about Japan, about planet Earth, and what her fellow completely normal Earthlings do everyday. She is, in truth, a fledgling Midchildan mage adventurer who has joined Tokyo's magical girls as the hastily imagined Magical Cheeseburger Propane-chan, because it sounded American. She is a sincere, dedicated, and hotheaded young woman armed with a fussy and sardonic Intelligent Device named Soaring Sky. She specializes in fiery melee attack spells, often splitting her Device into paired blades.

Background

Pre-September, 2013

Lera was born on Midchilda to Meria Camry and her late husband; Lera's father died when she was only two, leaving her an only child. Her mother poured her energy into her, especially as her daughter was really all that was left of the life that Meria expected for herself.

Lera is a colossal disappointment to her mother. Meria Camry is a stunningly talented Midchildan Meister, who has created a number of Midchildan artifacts that have been praised across the planet and used by famous mages. Lera was expected to follow in her mother's footsteps, keep the family tradition alive, and eventually prove better than her mother. She grew up and immediately began being tutored in the magic needed to create Devices.

By the time that Lera turned twelve, everyone but Meria could see that her daughter was not destined to be a Meister. She didn't have the brain for magical engineering and the like; she could barely make a very basic Storage Device.

She showed much more skill at using Devices, truth be told. Her mother wasn't happy when she stopped learning how to create Devices and started learning to use them instead -- including combat applications. She considered a career with the TSAB, but decided a tour as a mage adventurer was more exciting. Her mother, naturally, was mortified and forbid it immediately.

Lera wasn't deterred. She decided that she needed to start practicing; after she turned fifteen, she planned to go whether she wanted to or not, and she snuck into her mother's workshop and found an Intelligent Device that she made: a dark red staff, with gold endings, named Soaring Sky. She started practicing with Soaring Sky; she developed a bond with the irritable, often arrogant Device. He pretended to think that she was an idiot, but a measure of mutual respect (or maybe mutual desire to annoy each other) developed.

Then, one day, her workshop was broken into and an Intelligent Device, Broken Ground, was stolen. Her mother found that Soaring Sky was taken, too; he was missing from his holding. Meria found out that her daughter had been practicing with it. She was livid; a great deal of shouting and arguing ensued.

A tracking device on Broken Ground let her trace the weapon to Earth. Meria had no paticular desire to admit that an Intelligent Device had been stolen and taken to another world with far more problems, especially to the TSAB. She reached a deal with her daughter: Lera was free to go to Earth, to be a mage adventurer, as long as she found and brought Broken Ground back within a year. Lera readily agreed to this task and her mother permitted her to take Soaring Sky with her.

She enrolled in Infinity Institute as a transfer student at the beginning of September, as a third year middle school student. She has used her Intelligent Device a couple of times since then, adding to the magical girls moving about, to help deal with a couple of troublesome youma.

September 2013 - January 2014

Lera's pretensions at being American earned her a reputation at Infinity Institute. A lack of understanding of the Earth and so-so research on her supposed homeland made her standout. Nonetheless, she developed a friendship with Yukimi Amane despite a rocky start. She also worked against the youma, monsters, and other problems faced by the magical girls in Tokyo early in Fall.

Her Intelligent Device drew the attention of other wielders of Intelligent Devices, including the TSAB agent Alyce Ducati. Ducati questioned what she was doing there and quickly figured out the girl's Midchildan origins. However, Earth natives with Devices didn't figure out her alien origins immediately. She became friends with Ren Aizawa after cooperating with her several times early on. The discovery that Jewel Seeds, a form of Lost Logia, were loose on Earth motivated Lera to action and brought her in contact with Nanoha Takamachi.

Her mother expressed her discontent with these actions, though; in Meria's view, her daughter was gallivanting across a dimensional backwater rather than pursuing Broken Ground as she should. The tension between mother and daughter mounted in Fall. It left Lera increasingly discontent with her mother, who she felt simply did not understand her.

She decided in late Fall that she needed a cover identity as a magical girl; as a result, Magical Cheeseburger Propane-chan was born.

The falling of the star shards in winter drew Lera's attention, leading her to both help and run into conflict with her fellow magical girls. She discovered Yukimi was Lux Lapsa in the course of these events, and became an ally of her and Touka Chigami. She helped with the recovery of some shards, but also had a close brush with death when Qarzha, a demon from Waldia, nearly killed her to her force Fuu Hououji and other magical girls to give up their shard.

She happily joined the Sister Schools' winter trip to Hokkaido. She helped protect the dreaming magical girls while they resolved things in the dream world. She met Sailor Moon after she got back, too, forming a new parternship.

After the trip ended, the Jewel Seeds began to become more active. She worked with Ren, Endo Naoki, and Nanoha to subdue one that possessed a swan. While they succeeded, she also encountered Fate Testarossa here, a Device wielder pursuing the Jewel Seeds for her own ends. Lera asked her mother about the Jewel Seeds and mentioned the danger she found herself in, hoping to find a resolution. This frustrated her mother to no end, and she replied in the negative. Yukimi happened to read the message by mistake; after that, the two girls agreed to work together to find Broken Ground, and insure Lera could stay in Tokyo. However, from the contents of Meria's message, Yukimi also discovered Lera wasn't from Earth. Lera didn't realize at the time. They made plans to track down Broken Ground's tracking device, with the help of some friends.

Lera went after another Jewel Seed shortly after that, and ended up fighting Fate one-on-one. Fate managed to defeat her, but took her to the hospital after telling Lera her name. This action surprised her, but she was grateful. Fate later came back, with ice cream; Alyce Ducati was there at the time, also checking on Lera. An awkward face-off ensued, but it left Lera convinced that Fate wasn't such a bad person. She spoke with Nanoha later, and the two agreed to work together.

February - March, 2014

With the signal of the tracking device, Lera, Yukimi, Sailor Moon, Touka Chigami, and Kaitou Jeanne entered the sewers of Tokyo. They uncovered the device with a little trouble, that included an encounter with a hostile crocodile. From the tracking device, they discovered the identity of Broken Ground's thief: Lera's mother's former assistant, Jaren Zastava, a powerful mage in his own right. At the time, Lera hadn't quite realized -- and did not fully accept -- that Jaren had bonded with Broken Ground, and the stolen Device was no victim, but a willing partner in what was occurring.

The investigation into Jaren led Lera to find out that he had already attacked Ren, trying to steal her weapon for some secret employer. She told Ren and Endo about where she came from, with a little encouragement from Yukimi. They started looking for some sign of where Jaren was staying in Tokyo, though it failed to turn much up at first.

She decided to join the school play during the investigations. She met Mio Kuroki, the director of the theatrical adaptation of Dracula. Lera won the part of Quincy Morris, from Texas; her interpretation of Quincy was, suffice to say, not exactly accurate. The play also led her to become friends with Lucy Iwai, and meet Usagi Tsukino without quite realizing that she was Sailor Moon.

Working with Ren and Endo led her to become better friends with both. She found out that the two of them were dating at Tomoeda Amusement Park; when she discovered this with Nanoha and Fate, the three hid in a bush to watch them. When a Jewel Seed appeared, though, they fought over it to the delight of the amusement park's patrons, who thought it was a show. Fate was bothered by the fact that Lera and Nanoha played along (and the happy couple remained unaware), but then the mages had to work together when Signum and the other Wolkenritter attacked Clover Town. Lera and Fate managed to force the Knight backward.

Endo decided to talk to Lera afterward; she told him what she knew of Belka and his Device, though it was limited. The two became better friends, and some of Lera's doubts about him -- given his Ancient Belkan Device -- were assuaged, even if she didn't have many answers.

Her friendship with Lucy ultimately pushed her to join the Library Investigation Club, as the school year wrapped up. She went into one of the public delves into the library's dungeon, where she decided it was fun (even if someone playing a practical joke on the club wasn't so nice). After exams finished, Lera also discovered Yukimi's crush on Ikuto Tsukiyomi. She wasn't quite sure what to make of him, whether he was cool but distant or just a jerk. Her efforts to help Yukimi in pursuing him, though, were not quite effective.

She graduated middle school in late March. At the shared graduation among the Sister Schools, the ghost of a boy who never wanted to graduate captured Lera and other graduates in their doubts; Yukimi was able to break Lera free of that, with another message from her mother, this time showing her pride in her daughter. A few days later, Jaren resurfaced; he kidnapped Ren's older sister. While Lera, Ren, and Kuniko Saito forced him back, he managed to defeat Lera and she discovered his bond with Broken Ground.

She turned sixteen on April 1, at least as best as her mother could decide; she went to the amusement park with Yukimi and Lucy, riding roller coasters, watching boys, and forgetting their troubles for a little while.

Powers and Abilities

Lera is a Midchildan mage with an Intelligent Device, named Soaring Sky. She has a close bond with Sky and he is, without a doubt, one of her closest friends and confidants. More than that, Lera is able to draw on Soaring Sky to cast powerful magic. She is, very technically, an aerial mage. However, her magic thus far has been geared towards making incredible leaps and helping her run up walls, instead of the traditional airborne antics of most aerial mages. She has the potential to use true blue flight spells. She is also heavily melee-based, and most of her attack spells rely on such magic. While this varies from mode to mode for Soaring Sky, it usually holds true.

She can also perform some basic magical tricks and spells. Soaring Sky is capable of broadcasting a two dimensional hologram of data that he scans. This can be used to display maps and the like. Lera can also make a light orb appear, levitate small items, and other basic magical tricks. These can be performed in Standby Mode, in which Soaring Sky takes the form of a dark red writing pen.

Lera can make Soaring Sky change into two different combat modes. Dual Mode is when Lera splits him is most often split into two swords. These swords emit a magical energy field akin to plasma, which is primarily how Lera fights. Fencer Mode is when Lera combines the two swords into a bastard sword-sized weapon, which still emits energy. Her barrier jacket in these mode emphasizes speed and impact power over defensive capabilities. Her notable spells in these modes include:

  • Aura Surge: An Attack Spell, in which Lera causes her blade to turn a bright white color; it creates a bright flash bang effect on impact. It can be used in Dual or Fencer Mode.
  • Blaze Cleaver: An Attack Spell, in which Lera swings her sword at a foe two-handed, and leaves a bright fiery arc after her sword strike. It can only be used in Fencer Mode.
  • Inferno Slasher: An Attack Spell, in which Lera makes one blade double in length. The energy explodes off the sword after she strikes. It can be used in Dual or Fencer Mode.
  • Rapid Skyfall: An Attack Spell, in which Lera launches herself into the air, and then performs a four-hit combo attack on an opponent. It can only be used in Dual Mode.
  • Sentinel Cross: A Defensive Spell, in which Lera crosses her swords and creates an energy shield to intercept incoming melee attacks. It can only be used in Dual Mode.
  • Mirage Charge: A Support Spell, in which Lera makes a fiery glow around herself or an ally. It bolsters the target's damage and speed.
  • Combination Crusade: A high-level Attack Spell, in which Lera launches herself at an opponent and executes a thirty-six hit combo attack on them. The final hit involves firing a beam from one of the swords. It can only be used in Dual Mode.
  • Aurora Burst: A high-level Attack Spell of the bombardment type, in which Lera generates an energy charge between her swords in Dual Mode or at the tip of her sword in Fencer Mode. She fires a massive beam of energy from them. Her mother crafted this spell to be particularly harmful to creatures of darkness. It can be used in Dual or Fencer Mode.
  • Arc Breaker: A high-level Attack Spell, in which Lera over charges her sword in Fencer Mode, making it shine intensely bright. She goes airborne and drops down at an enemy, slashing from above, and then sharply cutting upward afterward; the second strike fires off a bright fiery explosion point blank. It can only be used in Fencer Mode.

Relationships

Friends

  • Yukimi Amane: My first and best friend that I've made out here. Yukimi's the best! Even if she found out about Mom... everything worked out for the best in the end, and she's been there for me.
  • Ren Aizawa: She's a good friend. But, I hate that Jaren's after her. It's my fault, at least a little... She says she's okay with it, but I don't know if it can stay like that.
  • Nanoha Takamachi: Nanoha is cute and earnest! She has a lot on her shoulders, with Fate and the Jewel Seeds, but whatever happens, we're in it together!
  • Endo Naoki: He's a good guy. I think he might be in over his head, but he can do it. And Ren likes him.
  • Lucy Iwai: Lucy is really funny! And she totally buys my being from America act. Really well, actually. I'm not sure what I think about that. But she's fun to hang out with.
  • Sailor Moon: She's really nice and funny! And brave. She's what a real magical girl should be. Maybe she shouldn't take the stairs so much.
  • Touka Chigami: Yukimi's friend! I hope she likes me. And I am not remotely jealous. Not at all. Nope. Not me! Never!

Uncertain

  • Mami Tomoe: She was willing to attack other magical girls. She seems nice, level-headed... but how could she do that?

Enemies

  • Fate Testarossa: She's kind, but driven. I wish I knew why she did what she did. I don't want to fight her, but the Jewel Seeds are dangerous...
  • Jaren Zastava: What an ass! He betrayed Mom, he hurt Ren... but I'm not strong enough to do anything about it.'
