Profile

"My name is Usagi Tsukino. I'm 14 years old and in eighth grade. I'm clumsier than others and a bit of a crybaby. That's about it."

Usagi is a clumsy, whiny crybaby who eats too much and struggles with bad grades, but she has a big heart and a lot more courage than she knows she has. A good thing, too, because she's also Sailor Moon, a guardian reincarnated from the Silver Millennium who calls upon the power of the moon to fight for justice. As Sailor Moon, she's only a little more thoughtful and confident, but her compassion knows no bounds. She and her allies, the Sailor Senshi, seek to protect the people of Tokyo and find the Moon Princess.

Current Events

After saving Tokyo from a massive attack by a group of powerful youma, Usagi has begun to embrace her changing life. Whether she's reincarnated from the ancient past, the captain of a lunar princess' personal guard, or a soldier sworn to uphold love and justice, today's Usagi has decided that she'll use her new powers to protect everyone she possibly can. Since her powers apparently revived nearly everyone in the city from an unnatural death, there's a lot of protecting to be done.

Her little RPG quest book looks a lot like this:

1. Locate the moon princess! Possible candidates: Anthy Himemiya, Sailor V.
2. Locate the Silver Crystal! Possible locations: who even knows.
3. Stop the enemy from achieving the above two goals! Current status: good. They're called the Dark Kingdom and they're huge jerks, but they always seem to retreat when things start to go poorly. What are they biding their time for, especially when they're so powerful?
4. Investigate the mysterious sailor soldiers, Sailor Neptune and Sailor Uranus! Possible secret identities: two really cool and pretty people.
5. Protect EVERYONE. Current status: on it.

History

Long ago, there was a princess named Serenity. Though she lived in the magnificent silver court of the Moon, beloved and envied the galaxy over, she longed to be elsewhere. Serenity found true happiness on Earth, an imperfect but forever changing planet. There, she found a man who loved her so much that he died to protect her. She loved him so much that all she could think to do was die with him. And so, she did.

Fortunately, Serenity's mother was far wiser than she. Even while fighting against the fall of civilization as it was known by laying the foundation for its rebirth, she saved a private wish for her daughter: Serenity and her love would be reborn on the same planet, so that something as small as a war would not come between them again.

Some time later, Ikuko and Kenji Tsukino had been waiting for several years to have a daughter that they could name Usagi because, come on, last name Tsukino? It says a lot about Kenji that he did a little fist-pump when he saw the birth certificate and made sure to clearly state his new daughter's name to all of his coworkers. Twice, sometimes. And then he explained the joke.

Usagi was an unusually precious child, though first time parents can never be sure. She was prone to daydreaming and could fascinate herself with almost situation. Put her in a waiting room for hours while her little brother is being born, and she'll steal a congratulatory bouquet then wander off to deliver roses to sad looking people.

She did not change as she grew older, but what the world expected of her did. What was charming in a child was not useful in a teenager. Usagi's mother, wanting success for her daughter and admittedly possessing something of a temper, found much to scold. Usagi barely made it through year after year, each time appearing less long for the academic world. She couldn't focus, or wouldn't focus, depending on which family member you asked. Usagi turned more and more to the things that she understood: her friends and her hobbies. She lived vicariously through celebrity gossip with her best friend, she dreamed of adventures behind a joystick, and she really earned that 30 she got on that quiz.

Then she found a cat, the cat turned out to be a talking cat named Luna, and the cat found her. With less difficulty than one would expect from a teenage girl communicating with a space cat, Luna outlined Usagi's mission: gather your allies. Find the princess. Defeat the enemy.

Even if Usagi hadn't selected Sailor V as her latest obsession, she would have done it. As it stood, Usagi fell into soldiering for love and justice with the same style that she adapted to any situation with: taking it at face value, playing up the drama, and trying to quit when it got tough. A combination of Luna's catly wisdom and soul-eating monsters who don't take 'I'm going home' as a response kept her on track.

Whoever 'the enemy' is, they're real jerks, though. No matter how poorly Usagi handles the danger, she can't let people like that walk around messing with people and ruining everything she enjoys! Besides, would Sailor V give up?

(not to mention that fighting for love and justice means you'll find love eventually!! right?!)

Relationships

Relationships are very important to Usagi. They're practically the only thing she cares about.
(Updated 23 March 2014)

Senshi

Ami Mizuno: It is a little weird how easily Usagi and Ami fit together. Though they don't fire each other up like her and Rei, or engage in gleeful geek-out sessions like her and Makoto, Usagi and Ami can just enjoy each others company. They balance each other out: for every time that Ami is dragged to some activity that she would never do otherwise, Usagi spends a quiet afternoon reading (manga, granted) alongside Ami while she studies. Usagi is still in perpetual awe of Ami's intelligence, and probably will be forever. If Ami wants to be a doctor, she'll be the best doctor ever.

Asagao Uekawa: A Sailor Soldier from another star system, Sailor Vega. She's a princess of the distant and unreachable Lyran Empire, and is looking for her fellow Lyran Sailors. Asagao is an extremely generous person, though she seems often embarrassed by Usagi's--well, Usagi doesn't call them antics, but Asagao probably would. Though they've just met each other, Sailor Vega has fought valiantly alongside Sailor Moon, and Usagi is eager to get to know more about this actual literal princess. Asagao is also rich. Seriously, household staff? Princesses, really.

Luna remembers the Lyran Empire, and recalls that their alliance and trade agreements with the Earth Kingdom were suddenly withdrawn following some scandal in the royal court. Asagao really is who she claims to be, and Luna is happy to have another person around who is knows how to act with some class.

Makoto Kino: How can anyone have a negative feeling about Makoto? She is adorable in every way. She makes delicious food, sure, but she also makes delicious food because she wants to make sure everyone has enough to eat! D'awwww. Usagi is forever impressed by Makoto's domestic mastery because it comes up so often (and food gets her attention), but even more than that, she admires her courage. Makoto is usually the first person Usagi runs to when she needs consoling. Not only does Makoto know comfort food, she's also strong enough (emotionally, though girl's got biceps too) to handle anything. Also, videogame buddies!

Luna: Things are getting a little weird with Luna these days. Her magical space cat / boss(?!) actually seems like she... respects her? Usagi's initial excitement at having someone so obviously magical in her life is still there, but what's more exciting is that the two are starting to become more comfortable with each other. After the battle at Tokyo Tower, Luna's commentary on her ability is no longer quite so sharp, which means that Usagi can focus on how adorable it is that a space cat is operating computers and wearing lab coats seriously have you seen this.

Orpheus: Asagao's talking cat seems really unusual compared to Luna. Usagi is willing to believe Asagao's theory that he's actually a normal talking cat who is making up a really good story to bum free food and housing, but Luna claims that he really is from the same planet she's from.

Rei Hino: Rei is so pretty! Especially her hair. Don't tell her that. Usagi and Rei have a mixed relationship, despite Usagi being instantly attracted to several things about her. Rei can be so mature: hard-working, elegant, decisive, and confident. Just like an adult, though, Rei is stubborn and has a terrible habit of assuming she knows what's best--or so Usagi thinks. Since even the appearance of not treating Usagi's feelings as legitimate is the surest way to get her riled up, Rei is one of the few people that she will regularly argue with.

She probably wouldn't argue, even then, if Usagi wasn't also mildly anxious around her. Rei represents a transitional adulthood that is coming quickly toward Usagi, even though she hasn't made peace with it yet. Usagi hopes she can handle the change as gracefully as Rei.

Sailor Neptune: A mysterious soldier whose placid demeanor hides powerful currents of deeper meaning. She's helped the Sailor Soldiers on several occasions, but otherwise does not seem interested in offering more than cryptic warnings. Along with her partner, Sailor Uranus, they're after the reputedly wish-granting artifacts called the Star Shards. They've implied that they're willing to hurt people to attain their goals. Who knows if they're even really Sailor Soldiers?

Sailor Uranus: A mysterious soldier who moves as fast and free as the wind. She's an even more rare sight than her partner, Sailor Neptune, but she seeks out the Star Shards just as surely. While Neptune is far more difficult to read, things seem more dangerous and intense when Uranus is around. Who knows if they're even really Sailor Soldiers?

Sailor V: A girl who may be the actual legendary soldier, Sailor V. Her erratic behavior and limited contact with the Senshi have made it difficult to tell exactly who she is, and if she really is the moon princess as she claims. Usagi has built a lot of her identity around idolizing Sailor V, but the reality of the situation has made all of her feelings so complicated. Nothing's like how she imagined it. Unbeknownst to Usagi and the other Senshi, the real Sailor V has come to town and disposed of the youma impersonating her.

Friends

Anthy Himemiya: A regal and fey girl who may be the moon princess that the Senshi are looking for. Usagi is all but convinced that this is true, which has led to an unusual amount of anxiety about seeing her. Anthy is incredibly polite and nice, but she has these moments of sudden sharpness that pierce through whatever illusion Usagi is (often unknowingly) trying to weave. Usagi has been cut several times in this way, but after the initial wounding she's always come out better for it. Surely this kind of wisdom is befitting the princess of the moon. However terrifying/thrilling it is to see Anthy, Chuchu (title: Daring Cookiefriend) is adorable. That helps.

Gurio Umino: NO, UMINO, GET OUT OF HERE--wait, um, I guess that's actually useful gossip, thanks I guess. OKAY YOU'RE TOO CLOSE. Can you believe Usagi's dad thinks this guy's boyfriend material? Brrr. Did you just get a chill too? Still, Umino's been a fixture in Usagi's life, just like Naru. He's a friend that Usagi didn't ask for, but still a friend. Usually. He can say some really bizarre stuff, even if he's proven himself harmless.

Haruka Tenoh: An extremely stylish boy who attends the Infinity Institute. He's incredibly close friends with Michiru Kaioh and Juri Arisugawa. Though intimidated by the elegance and poise that surrounds Haruka and his friends, Usagi finds him weirdly easy to talk to. It helps that he's the sort she can't keep her eyes off of. Usagi is almost certain that he's dating Michiru, but if that's true, why does it seem like they're flirting? Haruka puts Usagi off-balance with how she seems so intimate and close one moment but distant and retreating the next. He's cool but not stiff, in charge but not condescending, and may be the prettiest man Usagi has ever met. Usagi's not sure what she wants from Haruka, but she knows that being friends is never a bad place to start.

Japanese Cherry Blossom: Cherry Blossom, leader of the Perfume Warriors. Sailor Moon has fought beside them several times, and Japanese Cherry Blossom's decisive leadership has become an inspiration. Once, the Perfume Warriors calling upon a great power caused Usagi to feel really weird, like she was about to remember something. She's never found an opportunity to track down Cherry Blossom and ask her about that.

Juri Arisugawa: Also known as Sara the Invincible Phoenix, legendary fighting game ace. After a chance meeting, Juri has taken Usagi on as her student. Student in arcade fighting games maybe, but hey, that's totally Usagi's deal. Usagi is always excited to be around Juri. While some people make fun of Usagi for being into such nerdy things, Juri unabashedly owns her interests and dares people to judge her. Usagi desperately wants to have the same self-assured confidence and beauty one day, but her feelings are so confused. Sometimes, Usagi thinks that instead of being like Juri, she'd rather just be near her. Unbeknownst to Usagi, Juri absolutely detests Sailor Moon.

Kyubey: A fairy creature that grants wishes to girls willing to become Puella Magi. He's almost always around Madoka Kaname. Though Usagi was initially terrified to hear that Puella Magi died when they ran out of magic, she's found that there's no safe way to be a magical girl of any kind. Kyubey is nice enough, but Usagi still isn't sure how she feels about turning people into magical girls in exchange for a wish. Still, is it any worse than the girls who didn't get to choose, and didn't get anything in return? Kyubey's insistence that Madoka has incredible potential as a magical girl makes Usagi uncomfortable, but maybe Madoka really would make a great ally.

Lucy Iwai: Lucy Iwai, foreign transfer student to the Infinity Institute, and also Mesozoic Maiden Lucy. After facing down bullies, Usagi and Lucy became fast friends. After facing down youma, Sailor Moon and Mesozoic Maiden Lucy did the same. Hiding their secret identities from each other was a tangled affair that takes a flow chart to explain, but the battle at Tokyo Tower resolved all that in one desperate night. Usagi is always glad to show Lucy around Tokyo, and while Usagi is not athletic in the least, she really does enjoy the amazing things she sees on Lucy's nature hikes. Lucy is one of the first people Usagi calls in a variety of situations, from needing help scoping out a new arcade to needing help beating up a godzilla. Lucy also owns a dinosaur.

Madoka Kaname: Usagi's adorable same-height sister. Though they share much personality in common, Usagi is impressed by how wise Madoka is. More than others, Madoka has caused Usagi to rethink her positions on several subjects. Having met Madoka's mother, it's easy to tell where she gets it from. Putting Usagi and Madoka together in a room is always a little dangerous: they'll either end up sobbing and hugging and consoling each other about the cruelties of growing up, or constructing elaborate fantasy stories based off of a joke one of them said five hours ago. Or watching movies while eating lots of food. That too. Madoka's drawings have inspired Usagi to get more serious about becoming a manga artist one day, though 'what to do after high school' is starting to become a very removed concern.

Madoka doesn't know that Usagi is also her favorite magical girl, Sailor Moon. With all the terrifying supernatural things Madoka has gone through recently, Usagi feels desperate to tell her the truth. A thought lurks in the back of her mind, though: if she tells Madoka, will that make her more likely to take up the fairy-creature Kyubey's offer of making her a Puella Magi? Is that a good or bad thing?

Mami Tomoe: Puella Magi Mami Tomoe, veteran magical girl and Sailor Moon's biggest mentor. Ever since Mami saved her from an arcade demon, Usagi has looked up to her. Mami's constant vigilance has helped Usagi become serious about being a soldier of justice, and her target training exercises have made Sailor Moon a passable shot. Puella Magi Mami and Sailor Moon have gone through a lot together, and even though Mami opened up to her during a moment of weakness, it was only after the battle at Tokyo Tower that they've started to become close. Now that they know each others' real identity, Usagi's eager to become good friends with the girl who has influenced her so much. Unlike other role models in her life, Mami is the sort of person that Usagi can see herself becoming one day.

Michiru Kaioh: An extremely elegant girl who attends the Infinity Institute. She's incredibly close friends with Haruka Tenoh and Juri Arisugawa. It's easy to feel awkward around her, because Michiru is the very picture of a lady. The elegance, the artfulness, the grace: Michiru Kaioh will set down her teacup and commit to the finishing stroke of a beautiful oil painting while listening to reviews of her latest concert. You will be impressed. Usagi is. Michiru has agreed to teach Usagi a little bit about being classy, which is certainly going to be a dream come true.

Mio Kuroki: A glamorous exchange student from Kyoto. Though Mio is two grades above Usagi, they've become fast friends. First, it was by chance, but now they're bound by a deeper fate: in the process of saving Mio from a youma named Thetis, Usagi was forced to reveal that she's Sailor Moon. Mio is a very regal person who, more than anyone else in Usagi's life, fits the description 'has an old soul.' Though most people wouldn't expect the two to get along, Mio seems to enjoy being around Usagi in her own reserved way. Usagi is excited to have such a cool, mature, but still approachable friend.

Motoki Furuhata: Employee at an arcade called Game Center Crown. Exactly 26% of the reason Usagi hangs out there. He's so mature and smart and nice and isn't it amazing that he treats Usagi like an adult? Finally, someone gets her! Took long enough, wow.

Naru Osaka: Usagi's very first partner in crime. Naru's the one to blame for Usagi's taste for the trendier things in life. Usagi would have ended up romance-crazy on her own, but Naru's definitely thrown gas on that fire. Naru is by far the more stable of the two, so she's been (and still is) an important support for Usagi's developing ego and various insecurities. They still hang out a lot, and Usagi really enjoys being 'normal' now and then. Naru seems so put-off by supernatural stuff that it's probably best not to mention being Sailor Moon, though.

Nori Ankou: A melancholy girl who attends Ohtori Academy. Usagi is super impressed with Nori's knowledge of food and art, and is glad to see her whenever it happens. Nori always seems so tired for some reason, but maybe that's just been a coincidence. She is unaware that Nori is also La Sirene du Nord, the kinda-scary magical girl with a totally-not-scary pet otter.

Runealy Waldia: Princess Runealy of Waldia, a fantasy world just like in fiction. Princess Runealy initially deceived Earth's magical girls in a gambit to save her own world at their expense, but eventually decided to instead face her problems head on with the help of her new allies. Sailor Moon, impressed by Princess Runealy's leadership despite having had to admit that she was totally wrong, helped her then and still does whenever she can. Secretly, the demons attacking Waldia terrify Usagi unlike few others, and she is still anxious about whether or not she's doing the right thing. After showing such grace under fire, Runealy is still someone Usagi feels like she can trust, but it's taken her a lot of growing up to become comfortable with it.

Sakura Akagi: A brave girl in her class. Sakura is in the Juuban Adventurer's Club, which isn't actually a club. Sakura does not care about spiders or obvious boss battles. Usagi wouldn't want to be caught in a dungeon without her in the party.

Sayaka Miki: Madoka's dearest friend, and it shows. Usagi has been friendly with Sayaka, but they mostly know each other through their mutual friend. Usagi's impression of Sayaka being unusually cool has been confirmed by what she's seen of her as Sailor Moon. BATYAKA, or Sayaka Carrying a Mami-Enchanted Baseball Bat, has provided daring backup against youma of several sorts. While Usagi isn't totally okay with the idea of a regular person being so near danger like this, are any of them really safe in the first place? Sayaka seems to handle herself really well, anyway.

Shiori Takatsuki: After bonding on difficult episode away from home, Sailor Moon and Tuner agent Shiori have become frequent partners in magical adventure. Their patrols usually involve more hanging out and gossiping than actual scouting, which is completely fine with Usagi. Shiori has become a significant supporting pillar of Sailor Moon's ego. It's so fun having a cool friend who seems to be just as impressed with you as you are with her! If Luna hadn't convinced her otherwise, Usagi definitely would have taken Shiori's offer to join the Tuners. They can still be dynamic adventuring friends without it, anyway. Though Shiori only knows her as Sailor Moon, recent events have given Usagi enough confidence that she thinks she can be what Shiori wants: the type of friends who share everything with each other. Usagi is completely unaware of how differently she and Shiori see each other.

Tuxedo Mask: The mysterious and dashing Tuxedo Mask has always been there for Sailor Moon when she's needed him. He's precisely the gallant knight that Usagi has always dreamed of, which is why it's so confusing that he's apparently that total jerk Mamoru Chiba. Tuxedo Mask has evolved past possible enemy to close ally during the pursuit if the artifacts known as Star Shards, and Usagi probably couldn't have survived the battle at Tokyo Tower without him. The realization of his identity has thrown everything into question once again.

NOTE: INCREDIBLY HOT

Unazuki Furuhata: Motoki's younger sister. Usagi sees her often, because she's a waitress at Fruits Parlor Crown, located above Game Center Crown. Usagi really enjoys being able to order 'the usual.'

Yukimi Amane: Yukimi is the leader of the Juuban Adventurer's Club, which isn't actually a club. Yukimi exemplifies the kind of high school student Usagi wants to be: trusted by adults (Usagi thinks she is), unflappable in the face of danger (danger was a spooky basement which is legit dangerous if you think about it), and still cool enough to be into the important things in life like whether or not dinosaurs are real (they are). Because she goes to the high school, Usagi doesn't see her as often as she'd like.

Family

Ikuko Tsukino: Usagi's mother. Out of everyone in her family, Usagi feels closest to her. Most of the time this is absolutely horrible, because Ikuko's primary desire is to be supermom and Usagi is really holding her back. When things are bad, Ikuko's patience runs thin and her attempts to teach Usagi about functioning like an adult turn into over-dramatic confrontations. When things are good, they're sickeningly affectionate.

Since Ikuko's hard on Usagi because she loves her, they're never on the outs for long. Still, Usagi can't help but feel anxious about their relationship. She legitimately doesn't want to disappoint her mother. Ikuko's proven how much she cares for her family, and that's made a lifelong impact on Usagi. At the same time, she feels like she can never do enough to please her mother, and that Ikuko doesn't take the time to really understand things from her perspective.

Usagi's love and respect for Ikuko cause her mother's desires to weigh heavily on her conscience. Almost always, this drives Usagi to put things like her schoolwork totally out of her mind, even if ignoring it will make her feel worse later. Ikuko may be mortified to find out how the pressure is really affecting her daughter, but she should at least be glad that her example is what instilled in Usagi the importance of caring and sacrificing for others.

Kenji Tsukino: Usagi's father. He works almost all the time, but has a really amazing job as far as Usagi is concerned. Working at a magazine gets you into all the glamorous and important events! Kenji gets to be the nice parent because he's not around to become involved in all the heavy lifting Ikuko does. On the other hand, he's missed so much of Usagi's life that he still sees her as way younger than she is. Usagi usually tolerates Kenji treating her like a child because he's not the authority figure in charge of her day-to-day life. It also helps that he is possibly the most easy-going man she will ever know. He seems to have noticed a change in her recently, and has begun to consciously offer her both his trust and greater responsibility.

Shingo Tsukino: Usagi's little brother. There are absolutely no surprises in Shingo and Usagi's relationship. Shingo thinks Usagi is a frivolous idiot. Usagi thinks Shingo is some sort of cruel joke her parents are playing on her. This is an ancient war that goes back to when Shingo learned how to play video games. Having to share the console is one thing, but having your little brother surpass you in every game and then criticize your technique so much that you're driven to the arcade? Why do you hate, Shingo? Why? When things become serious, Usagi and Shingo are fiercely protective of each other. Ikuko raised them up right in that regard. Shingo's recent idolization of Sailor Moon takes a lot of the sting out of his teasing.

???

Daiki Asuka Jr.: A dashing boy who works with the police. Sailor Moon has found that cops and magical girls don't often mix because of 'vigilante laws' or whatever, but this one is so cute argh.

Diva Heart: An aggressive and abrasive magical girl who doesn't seem to make friends. She attacked Sailor Moon and her allies when they were on the verge of solving a misunderstanding involving a Star Shard. She still has that shard, and Usagi isn't sure what her motivation is. She's really, really, really into wrestling, though.

Fangy Red Girl: A red-haired Puella Magi that attacks with wild abandon. She's always eating something, and only helps out when she feels like it. Why does she seem to treat being a magical girl so differently from everyone else?

Kaitou Jeanne: A magical girl who steals things, and has done so several times in the proximity of Sailor Moon. She seems harmless somehow, but stealing is definitely not justice approved! What's her deal, anyway?

Cheeseburger Propane-chan: She's from America.

Mamoru Chiba: WOW, THIS GUY IS THE WORST. Really bad. Terrible. Do not acknowledge. Completely ignore. How is it he keeps showing up everywhere, and why does he always pick a fight with Usagi? EVEN WORSE: he's maybe secretly Tuxedo Mask! Usagi can't believe it's true. Okay, she's just really hoping it was a misunderstanding. It's going to take awhile for her to reconcile this in her head.

WHY IS HE SO HOT

Mysterious Shield Girl: A black-haired Puella Magi that shows up and disappears as she pleases. What is she interested in, and why does she seem so melancholy?

Enemies

Dark Precure: An incredibly powerful magical girl with an unknown agenda. Sailor Moon will never forgive anyone who makes friends doubt themselves.

Dark Raspberry Vanilla: A mean magical girl who is an enemy of the Perfume Warriors. Sailor Moon will never forgive anyone who misuses raspberries in the pursuit of villainy.

The DD Girls: Near-invincible youma of the Dark Kingdom who would have killed everyone in Tokyo if it hadn't been for a miracle. Sailor Moon will never forgive anyone who treats people's lives like a commodity.

Erythrite: A lieutenant of the Dark Kingdom who has been behind several youma attacks. Sailor Moon will never forgive anyone who victimizes her adorable same-height sister.

Nephrite: A general of the Dark Kingdom who assaulted the Infinity Institute for mysterious reasons. Sailor Moon will never forgive anyone who attacks innocents to achieve their goals, no matter how conflicted they seem about it.

Pisard: A strange man who makes regular objects attack people. Sailor Moon will never forgive anyone who interrupts picnics with evil trees.

Qarzha: A Waldian demon who stole a Star Shard and nearly killed many people. Sailor Moon will never forgive anyone who uses violence because they think others won't understand.

Thetis: A powerful youma of the Dark Kingdom who sought to steal a Star Shard. Sailor Moon will never forgive anyone who bullies new students.
