It's a Sunday! However the Magic School at Infinity is still open. It's one of the few places in the city that a certain time of homework was not only authorized but encouraged. Go past an unassuming looking door and suddenly you're looking at a Sunken City. Is it another dimension? An illusion? Who knows! However it's a perfect battleground for mage combat training.
One of the sideways skyscrapers serves as an observation deck. It's blast shielded of course, and the voices of the people within are amplified- making it easy for telepaths to talk back.
Fate is not currently in her barrier jacket. She's in a black ribboned blouse with a white skirt. White ribbons in her hair. "It's really hard at first. It's like... using a muscle you haven't for a while." She says to Ren and Endo- having some experience in retraining herself post being drained, "Try doing something really basic without using your Devices. You may have to focus for a real long time- and it'll hurt some. If it hurts too much, then take a short break, and try again."
She's really gentle in her training compared to a certain someone, but there's still a certain relentless quality to her in this.
Her eyes filter off into the distance- and it feels like everything is closer, like she can see both Lera and Nanoha even though they're far away. "The two of them will be starting soon."
Her voice is amplified then as she calls out- "Can you hear us loud and clear?" A beat, "This really felt like the best way to welcome her back. Don't you all agree?" Bardiche chimes in with a- <Yes Sir!> A few seconds later she adds- "Neither of you should overdo it today. Amy hasn't reinforced Raising Heart's frame yet..." She sounds a touch worried. Nanoha and Lera both had a reputation for overdoing it.

Lera Camry is in her Barrier Jacket.
It's a long, dark green coat that is buttoned across the chest by golden clasps. The sixteen year-old stands there on the floor, with her Device in hand. Soaring Sky is, presently, in the shape of the broadsword that he most often takes the form of -- and rests across her shoulders. Her eyes move to the side for a moment, looking off towards Ren and Endo.
The look of worry and concern on her face is hard to ignore. She hesitates, before she hears Fate's voice, then she nods. "We hear you loud and clear!" she calls back. "Don't worry, Fate--"
Only Fate would worry about this.
"--I'm not gonna go easy on her!" The orange-haired girl beams, before she turns her head, and looks back at the girl in front of her. Despite the seemingly hot-blooded declaration, the look on her face is warm and her amber eyes are kind. She looks at Nanoha, and nods once. "I'm really glad you're back, Nanoha-chan."
She smiles. "We all really missed you, y'know? Especially Fate."

It's training day!
Nanoha hasn't been back too long from her trip but it didn't take much time at all to get caught up and learn just about everything that is known about the Wolkenritter and just how they are draining people. As well as learning from Lindy and Fate about the Book of Darkness. It seems like only yesterday they were in the Garden of Time and now this was happening. She feels bad for not being able to do more before but now that she's back, Nanoha has been preparing to do whatever possible to help.
Of course the biggest thing is getting her upgrade from Lindy for Raising Heart. The cartridge system is going to be an adjustment, especially trying to remember that certain abilities have to be used sparingly due to their power and construction. Regardless, she is always more than willing to learn and get better and stronger!
In the training school today she is dressed in her Barrier Jacket with Raising Heart at the ready. To Fate she calls out, "I can hear you!" Looking at Lera, Nanoha nods. "I missed everyone too!" Her eyes sparkle and she nods and smiles at Lera. "This is going to be different though right?" As she says this, Nanoha raises Raising Heart. She bounces a little as well with excitement.

When Fate told Ren about what she planned on doing here today, the teenager jumped at the chance to take part. Nanoha was back! Ren's all smiles as she stands there, also not clad in her barrier jacket. The silver ornate ring that is Souverain Heraut's standby form is present on her finger, the topaz gem glinting in the artificial light of the training area. She turns and smiles at Endo who is also present in the little bubble, feeling much more confident with him present. Both of their Linker Cores have been healing all this time -- and today was the day to put them to the test... within reason.
"Right Fate-chan!" Ren pumps a fist into the air, then blushes a bit when she realizes she's being a little over the top. "S-Sorry... I'm just happy to see Nanoha-chan back! Her and Lera-chan are going to put on a good show I bet!"

Endo is attentively listening to Fate's instruction. He's found time-and hard still, energy-to attend this particular training session, so he's attempting to make the most of it. His head bobs back and forth, though his face does scrunch up at Fate's first request.
"Aaah-that sounds hard. I don't really do magic without Stern." He's very co-dependant. He does, however, add, "I can try." Ren's enthuasim helps a bit, the boy offers a weary smile to her before he attempts to concentrate.
And then immediately gives up so he can turn toward the view below.
"Good luck, Nanoha-san! Fate-san!"

There's this soft yet fond sigh when Lera says she's not going to go easy on her. "Those two." And yet wouldn't she be the same way in a fight with Nanoha? But then at Lera's last comment- Fate suddenly sounds embarrassed and a little shy, "Well... yes... I... missed her..." Do her cheeks look a touch red? Maybe.
"It'll be different, but Raising Heart will know what to do." Fate says lightly. "Just like Bardiche did."
Ren's enthusiasm though has this tiny smile back on her face, "I understand completely. It's good to see you so enthusiastic today Ren." A beat, and she holds up a finger, "Because you'll need that for your retraining."
Oh dear.
She puts her hands together in a handclasp, "And it is hard Endo. But necessary. You're not training Stern. You're training yourself to be ready to use Stern."
In her smiling face is definitely that of a future magic instructor. "So I want you both to try to form your most basic shooting spell."
This may be especially hard for Endo who isn't used to doing magic outside of being transformed, "You're not going to be able to shoot it. Just try to form it." She bobs her head, "Then once you can hold it for as long as you can then- do it again a hundred times."

"Mm-hm. How were things, overseas?" Lera asks, head tilted to the side. Then, she smiles a little more when Nanoha asks that. Her eyes dip down, to regard Raising Heart, before they lift to look the younger girl in the eye. "Ah--yeah, it'll be different, but your bond's strong, and that's what matters most! After Bardiche was upgraded..."
Lera's first Device, Soaring Sky, cuts in: <Don't worry! I'm sure Raising Heart has it handled. Bardiche took to his upgrades well enough. And I'm certain I'll show him up when it's time.>
Lera sighs. "Here we go again..."
She swings the sword off her shoulder, then points the tip of it down at Nanoha. She has to point it a little too far down, thanks to the difference in heights, for it to look right--
'Good luck, Nanoha-san! Fate-san!'
"E-Endo-san!" Lera whines, turning to look at him. "Don't forget to wish me luck too! Y-Yeesh!"

"Okay Fate-chan!" Nanoha doesn't seem to take notice of the flush in Fate's face. She looks at Raising Heart to hear, <"Ready Master!"> Just hearing that makes her feel like nothing has changed. Of course, a lot has but it felt good just to be back in her element.
"It was okay Lera-san." Nanoha says to the question. "Dad is better!" And that's what matters right? Besides now is not the time to go into details. They had plenty of time for that after training.
Nanoha cannot help but look a little amused at Fate's dedication. She knew that being with Lindy was going to be great for her but it was still a little unexpected to hear her so enthusiastic about training. Regardless, she is more than happy for her help, as well as everyone else.
Even though she's ready, Nanoha seems a little reluctant to start first. Maybe she is nervous about what Lindy and Fate told her about not overdoing it. Even Lera's words don't seem to ease the nerves. Raising Heart seems to respond to her thoughts, <"We will be fine!">

Fate's talk of needing all the enthusiasm she can muster for retraining gives Ren some pause. She blinks at the small blonde mage, wondering just what she's capable of. There's a certain glint her eye that is kind of troubling... but everything should be alright... right? Hmm...
Lera's words coming through loud and clear shakes her out of her thoughts, and Ren turns to look over to where her and Nanoha are, pumping a fist into the air again. "Go Lera-chan and Nanoha-chan! You can do it!" Ren isn't going to pick sides in this friendly training conflict, choosing instead to support the both of them. It really is the best option!
"O-oh! Right!" She shakes her head, turning to face Fate again when she instructs them on what to do. They're not just here to watch! She then holds out a hand, narrowing her eyes as she starts to concentrate. She's had just a little bit of experience with using magic with Heraut's help -- though it's definitely going to be harder with her Linker Core not at one hundred percent still. "Oh... come on... please..." She mutters under her breath, until finally there's the faintest glimmer of bronze-colored light that forms in front of her outstretched palm. It flickers a bit... but it's there. "Ahh... I think I did something!"

"And Lera-san too!" Endo quickly appends his statement.
He beams for just a moment, then turns back to Ren and Fate. The small girl's explanation makes him give a tentative, considerate nod of his head. It feels alien to do anything without Stern, it's true. Still, he seems to be willing to trust Fate on what needs to be done.
The boy shifts his feet a little, as if trying to find a comfortable position to begin from. First, he mimics Ren; hand outstretched, pointed off toward a wall. He concentrates. Then makes a finger-gun instead. And concentrates more. And then he makes a karate hand, then a thumbs-up, then a fist, and finally settles on just miming holding his device.
Once he's finally settled and gives it some time, his face begins to scrunch up with effort. There's no light, no flicker, only a long minute before he flinches and exhales. "Yaaa--it's sore."

<Bring it on.> Bardiche chimes in response to Soaring Sky. While Fate looks somewhat awkward at the exchange. "Not today Bardiche. It's their day." <Yes Sir.> "Both of you do your best!"
Whereas Fate tries not to smile when Lera whines. She fails a little. And the smile is definitely there when Nanoha talks about her father being better.
What Nanoha doesn't know is that Fate was always enthusiastic about training. It was basically all she did back in the Garden of Time when it was firmly rooted on Midchilda. Train train train. Lindy's military background was just bringing it out of her again.
But Fate watches Ren extra intently as she forms the bronze colored light. Fate's expression is delighted, but she doesn't say anything at first, letting Ren focus. As the light flickers into- it's only after she says that that Fate comments. "Very good Ren. If you're managing it so quickly it means you're almost recovered."
A few seconds pass- "Which means you'll be ready for more intensive training soon." That sounds ominous. "But for now. Keep doing that. You can even split your concentration and watch the fight while doing that. That's good training too."
Endo however has more trouble, and Fate understands quite well that he has no magical background. No lessons- no classes- no books... so she walks up to him and gently puts a hand on top of his. "It's okay. You were trying very hard, you just don't have that kind of background of trying magic without a device."
Fate doesn't need to concentrate to do the same thing. She turns over her hand- and - soon enough there's a pulsing yellow sphere alternating with violet light hovering over her hand. "I can give you some lessons later if you want, but this might be better in the short term. Instead of trying to form a spell of your own... try to focus on mine instead - and move it without touching it. Even if you can't manage it- it'll still train up your linker core."
After a few seconds she adds, "Soreness is your body's way of telling you that you're doing good work."

"That's more like it!" she calls back at Endo. She looks sideways at him, flashes a smile, then she looks ahead to Nanoha again. Sky, too, laughs. It is good-natured. <Later, Bardiche.>
"He is! I'm glad, y'know?" Lera says with a smile back to Nanoha. She holds her position for a moment, looking down the length of her sword. Nanoha waits to charge in -- but that hasn't ever been a thing that the Midchildan teenager does. She lifts up into the air, her flight spell sending her skyborn and leaving a trail of orange-red light cascading out in her wake.
Soaring Sky speaks -- and his spell incantation is entirely different. The last time that he worked with Raising Heart, he spoke in Midchildan and used Midchildan magical circles. Today, he speaks with a Belkan inflection -- and the tell-tale spinning triangle appears behind her.
<Crescent Fangs!>
A trio of plasma arcs swirl into existence -- then each fires straight downward, rushing in towards Nanoha, and making ready to test her defenses, as they come at her from in front and each side. Lera cracks a smile. "I hope you're not rusty, Nanoha-chan!"

Nanoha smiles at Ren as she cheers them on. "Thank you Ren-san!" The young girl really does appreciate all of their encouragement and it makes her feel more assurance.
From the side she can see Ren and Endo trying to use their magic. Again there is a slight twinge of guilt but she dismisses it and remarks to them, "I believe in you guys!" Smiling, Nanoha offers a thumbs up with her free hand before turning back to face her opponent.
Almost before she think Soaring Sky's attack is directed at her. In an amazing show of reflex Nanoha quickly attempts to dodge, her shoes gaining wings as she moves up and backwards. She's quick but still rusty and just narrowly manages to avoid the plasma arcs. "I think we'll be okay!"
Nanoha lifts Raising Heart. <Flash Impact!> She quickly closes in the gap between her and Lera as a bolt of energy aims itself directly at her for a strike attack.

Ren looks excited for a split second -- then Fate mentions more intense training to come and she falters a bit with a blink. The ball of bronze light winks out of existence, and she grins sheepishly. "Ahh... well, I suppose that makes sense... how more intense are you thinking of making things?" She asks, rubbing the back of her neck. She looks to Endo, and feels immediately bad that he isn't able to do what she just did. "Endo-kun... You can do it!"
While Fate-chan goes over and aids him she takes the time to turn back towards Lera and Nanoha, just in time to see them start their engagement. Lera strikes first, but Nanoha dodges and retaliates! Ren's heart begins to race as she watched the two mages zip about and attack one another. Who'll come out on top?!

Endo pauses to take note of Ren's accomplishment, offers a smile and chiming, "Good job, Ren-chan." He seems happy she's recovering well, despite his trouble with forming a spell.
For a moment he's distracted by what's going on outside the observation deck, head craning, the boy murmuring, "Aah-Nanoha-san is still pretty fast." He muses.
Then back to Fate. He cranes down, leaning and squinting at her hand. His own move to hover nearby the sphere she creates. It takes several minutes, but the sphere eventually moves. Just a little wobble back and forth. It takes a bit of effort, Endo's teeth clenched, but when he stops to take a break he seems fairly proud.
"Ah--I think I did it."

For a moment Fate is watching the exchange between Lera and Nanoha- her expression fond. "Ah she's going in close already. She must be feeling really confident today." After all Lera was specialized at close combat. "I wonder if she's going to surprise Lera with that..."
Then Ren asks that and Fate- "Nothing you can't handle." Fate says, which sounds gentle but also ominous. Again. "I know how good you are after all."
When she looks back at Endo's way she looks at the sphere and says- "Oh very good! See? You're a natural at magic."
She's smiling from ear to ear, "Maybe you should consider transferring to Infinity for the Magic Program." A beat, "And to be closer to Ren of course."
The latter one may be way more important in her mind.

"Ah, you're quick!" Lera yelps. Fate is correct: she didn't expect Nanoha to close to melee quickly -- but Nanoha always did a good job of surprising her. She just barely slides to the side, and the energy blast sails by -- ruffling her hair, sending her sidebraid out bobbing past. She gasps, before she snaps her head to look back at Nanoha.
She shifts Sky in her hands, to grasp the Device with both, before she blitzes in close. She blunts the edge of the weapon, with a thin coat of magical energy. A sparring match is one thing, but accidentally cutting her friend with her sword would never be okay.
<Inferno Slasher!> Soaring Sky calls out, as the Belkan triangle -- not a Midchildan circle, like before -- flashes out behind her. Lera chops the weapon up, and a blast of plasma fire explodes off it, shooting towards Nanoha and Raising Heart.

If Nanoha didn't have to focus on the battle in front of her, she would be very pleased with Ren and Endo. As it is though, there's not much time to focus on anything else other than Lera and to her remark about her speed, Nanoha can only smile.
Unfortunately, the young girl realizes a little too late that she has opened herself up for a melee attack. Before she can move back Lera's Inferno Slasher comes directly for her. Raising Heart calls out, "Watch out Master!" A shield is put up but it's a little too late to avoid the full impact and Nanoha takes a little of the force directly. It's enough to daze her briefly and she looks at Fate before trying to shake it off and recover.
"Good one Lera-san!" She manages a small smile before moving back further into ranged. <Master?> Nanoha pauses, hoping this won't be too much for Raising Heart, but then she nods before calling out, <Diviiiiine Buster! The attack is quick and powerful and shoots a beam directly at Lera.

"Ok then!" Ren nods, feeling better. If Fate says she can handle it, she definitely has nothing to worry about! The flashes of the battle catches her attention again. She pauses momentarily to watch the exchange, biting her bottom lip in anticipation. They're definitely going at it in close quarters -- and then Nanoha breaks out one of her signature moves, causing Ren to temporarily shield her eyes from the intensely pink light that overtakes her vision. "Yep. That's Nanoha-chan in top form alright." She chuckles, turning away again to face Endo and Fate.

"W-Whoa!" Lera gasps, as she sees the massive beam of pink light flying out for her. "Sky! Block it!"
<That's Ground's job!>
Lera hisses and banks sharply to the side. The shot of energy explodes out, and she just manages to arch her body past it. The beam erupts, scoring a hit on the ceiling, and leaves her Barrier Jacket crackling -- but she doesn't get taken down the way that she should be. She lets out a soft sigh of relief.
"You still have it, Nanoha-chan!" she calls back. "Let's see if I can keep you on your toes, though, y'know?"
She rushes in -- and swings her sword back. She slashes once, chopping at the top of her head, before she does a sharp turn, and then slashes straight down. She finishes with a quick kick aimed for her. The blows are blunted -- but they still pack a punch.
But that's why Barrier Jackets exist!

"Really?" Endo asks of Fate when she comments on his ability. "I don't feel like I'm that good at it." The boy makes a lopsided smile, replying, "I don't feel like I'm that good at it." He lets out a big breath, taking the chance to relax after applying all that effort.
"Oh--aaa, well, I don't know if I'd really fit in here. It'd be nice to be closer to Ren and all of you, though." He smiles sheepishly, adding, "I like it at Juuban, though. I guess that's why I'm not really good at this."
As for the fight below, Endo notes, "That was close. Lera-san is pretty quick too, though."

The bright flash of riotous pink light causes Fate to shield her eyes too. "She really is. She must have trained really hard while she was away." Which is especially admirable given why she was away.
She tries not to laugh at Sky saying it's Ground's job, but her lips twitch. "This is bringing back some old memories."
Strangely not sad memories, even though they're of fighting Nanoha when they were enemies, she's looking at the actual battles as fond ones now that gave her the opportunity to get closer to this girl.
When Endo says it being nice to be near Ren and all of them, she smiles, "Wouldn't it?" But he says he likes it at Juuban. She nods, "Well I can always give you lessons anyhow. Nanoha would probably be happy to too."
Would Nanoha be a taskmaster in training compared to Fate though? Who would be rougher in lessons and training? It's a good question.
Spoiler: The answer is Nanoha.
"She's getting faster." Fate adds in regards to Lera, "I still remember when she couldn't fly at a-" Then she stops as she considers Endo, "Ah." She waves a hand, "Not that all mages have to fly or anything."

Lera closes in the distance and Nanoha is taken by surprise. "Agh! Come on Raising Heart!"
<Flash Move>
Nanoha quickly moves back away from Lera trying to stay in ranged as much as possible now and just barely dodging the brunt of the attacks as she moves. 'Man Lera's good!'
Raising Heart changes back to shooter mode, <Axel Shooter!>
The direct, focused bright beam aims itself directly for Lera. Nanoha does her best to direct and control it so it will hit its mark.
There is so much adrenaline flowing now and the young girl feels more in control than she did at the start. She doesn't remark about it right then but it really was nice to be back. Perhaps with the new upgrades they would stand a chance at beating the Wolkenritter after all.

"Ah, yeah, Endo-kun is pretty fond of Juuban! It's a good school -- I went there until high school." Ren informs Fate with a nod. "I really grew to like Infinity, though. At first I thought I didn't really belong there... I was really out of my element! And then I found Heraut and..." The rest, as they say, is history.
The sounds of the battle rages on, and Ren glances in the direction of it a few times as she keeps practicing. The ball of light is more consistent by her sixth time summoning it up, and she feels accomplished... and maybe a bit tired, too. She remembers what Fate said and backs off a bit, taking a deep breath in.
Lera Camry (Lera) pages Fate Testarossa and Nanoha Takamachi: Sure!

"Whaaah!"
Lera yelps, when the beam comes in. Try as she might, she couldn't dodge forever -- and this one hits her and throws her back into the area that Ren, Fate, and Endo were practicing in. She doesn't land gracefully; she rolls head over heels, and ends up heel over heads against the wall. She stays there, upside down.
Blink blink.
"W-Well," she stammers out, "You definitely still got it, Nanoha-chan!"

"I wouldn't mind taking more lessons. I need to get stronger, so I can help everyone out again soon." A somber nod from Endo.
He shuffles back when Ren does, asking, "Can I take a break?" Hopefully Fate will say yes, because he needs to go sit and recover. He's still got a ways to go. And he wants to watch Lera and Nanoha train. He might even learn something!

Fate watches the conclusion of the sparring match- the beam Nanoha fires at Lera. She winces at Lera getting left head over heels, but smiles after, "You did so well Lera. Both of you did."
Fate nods at Ren's statement though- "They must have seen your potential to be an incredible mage." Wait what? Didn't Ren find Heraut after transferring? However Fate must think that they detected such in Ren at least, her potential. "I'm glad you're at my school Ren. It was... tough for a while when I started here... all of you made it so much easier for me."
Fate nods at Endo saying that though, "Just a short break. You need to get back to it as soon as possible."
Considering Nanoha and Lera- Fate asks Ren, "If you had to critique their match Ren- what advice would you give to both of them?"

There is a look of shock when Nanoha's attack actually hits Lera. The young mage didn't seem to be expecting that. She quickly transforms out of her Barrier Jacket and runs to where Lera landed.
"Ack, are you okay Lera-san?" She grins and reaches out to offer a hand to help her up. "I appreciate the help." A pause. "From all of you! It is nice to be back and training again!"
When Fate asks Ren to critique them, Nanoha blushes a little and looks at Lera then Ren. Personally, she thought they did well. It was her first time back after a pretty long break after all.

"M-Maybe? I'm not sure..." Ren did think about this quite often. Considering everything that's happened to her since Heraut came into her life, she can't help but think someone at Infinity sort of put her up to all of this. But... she's not upset about it. Becoming a Mage has changed her so much -- for the better, she thinks. She really wouldn't have it any other way now...
Fate's words catch her attention. "Hmm? Me? Judge... them?" She looks wearily over to where Lera and Nanoha are, blinking when she notices the training exercise seems to be over. Did... Nanoha win? She looks to where Lera has extracted herself from a wall. "Oh wow! Umm..." What's she gonna say? Well, it's a no-brainer, really...
"I think you both did well! Umm... keep training!" That's good advice, right?

"Y-yep! I'm good, y'know?" Lera even gives a thumbs-up.
She flips forward, then lands on her knees and looks up, peering up at Nanoha -- and then at Fate -- and finally at Ren. She flashes a guileless grin at her, before she scratches at the back of her head. "A-aw, thanks, Ren-chan!" she says. "You're the best, y'know?"

Fate lifts a finger after Ren finishes talking, "It's true they both did very well. I agree. I'd give them very high marks. But if we just say they did well like there's nothing they can work on- neither of them will ever learn like that." She's very gentle and polite about saying so, "How will they know where to focus their training?"
Fate takes a few moments and- "Nanoha. Vita and Signum are both close range mages. You took Lera by surprise like that only because she knows your style enough that a move like that is unexpected. Against them they'll capitalize on it. Work on building some distance early. Rely on that if you don't have any other options."
Whereas for Lera, "Good work. Though you forgot what Device you were using for a while- and Sky had to remind you his protection spells aren't as strong. Be careful about that."
And to get the point across she says just as gently, "Imagine if it were Signum there instead of Nanoha."

"A-Ah... yeah." Ren rubs the back of her neck while blushing. "Fate-chan... you raise a good point. I'm glad you're here to point those things out." Hey, Ren never said she was the best at giving constructive criticism. She's just glad someone else other than her did it.
"It's going to be a tough fight. We need to utilize our strengths." Ren says suddenly, then stops to look at Fate as if she's waiting for some confirmation, before continuing. "If we work together like a well-oiled machine I really think we can take them down... before it's too late."

Nanoha smiles at Ren. "Thank you Ren-san." She appreciated having Endo and Ren here to support them. It meant a lot to see her friends here.
When Fate critiques her, Nanoha winces a little. "I understand Fate-chan! I will try and remember that! Thank you for helping me!" Even though she's looking at Fate, the comment seems to be directed at all of them.
Nanoha nods about them working together. "I know we can do it! We just have to keep training!" The young girl smiles before realizing how tired she is.
