Profile
Nanoha Takamachi might seem like an ordinary, if very kind, young girl with no direction in life. And for a long time, that was true. Until her Third Year in elementary school, anyway, when her life changed. Happening across an injured ferret on her way home from school the day after a seemingly prophetic dream was just her first step into a whole new world of magic. That ferret was Yuuno Scrya. And he wasn't really a ferret at all! In actuality he was a mage from another world and budding archaeologist. When his latest discovery of Lost Logia, magical artifacts of great power called Jewel Seeds, were accidentally spread all over Tokyo he had been trying to re-gather them all before they could cause any damage. Unable to do so on his own and granting Nanoha the Intelligent Device: Raising Heart, the two quickly became friends and teammates. Now with the power of magic and her own resolve, Nanoha will blast her way through destiny itself to seek out the Jewel Seeds. And try and become the friend of that girl with the sad, lonely, eyes.
History
Born the as the youngest to daughter Momoko and Shiro Takamachi, Nanoha had always led an uneventful life. Her parents owned a coffee shop and bakery, Midori-ya, which was popular with the local school girls. She was a kind... And entirely ordinary girl, participating in the standard fare of life for others of her age. Studying, attending classes and cram school, and helping her parents and siblings in the café between schoolwork, it was all so mundane.
When asked what she wanted to be in the future her answer could always only be 'I don't know'. Young as she is, at nine years old, a slowly mounting depression from her early childhood clung to her, alone or in public. Everyone around her- family and friends- all held in their hands the maps to their futures, and someone irreplaceable to turn to in times of need. But not Nanoha. Serene and peaceful as her life might have seemed to an outside observer, to Nanoha, the girl was still trying to find a meaningful life and future for herself.
Certainly, she could, if she had chosen to, have taken over the family business as she grew. But that was simply not in her ambitious nature.
And for her... It was just too plain.
At the heart of the matter, one of the most pivotal moments in Nanoha's young life was just before she had begun kindergarten. Her father was caught in an accident. That's what she had been told, but in truth, during his old life as a bodyguard he had accumulated many enemies. And it was no accident.
As a result, Shiro Takamachi was hospitalized. Even rendered comatose. It was actually this event that had spurred Momoko, Nanoha's mother, to open Midori-ya, as it had been her dream with Shiro; though even that intent would have to wait during his slow and arduous recovery. For a long time, Nanoha's mother and siblings had been too busy with their father, often leaving her very lonely, and just plain alone in the house with her other family members at the hospital or trying to get Midori-ya off the ground. That was the start... Sometimes the girl, young though she may have been at the time, would wonder if she was actually an unwanted child. This was not true, and she knew it, especially when her mother would draw her into loving arms. But the first clawing feelings of loneliness had begun to sink in. Every time her mother held her it... Was soothing. And at the same time it hurt so much. And whenever she was alone Nanoha would cry. Not from sadness, but out of frustration. Frustration at being helpless. Frustration at being unable to help.
She hated it.
That's when Nanoha resolved to smile. To keep smiling. So that her family wouldn't have to worry about her on top of the troubles with Shiro. So that her smile could make them smile. Even if it was fake or real, she smiled, so they wouldn't have another burden on their mind.
Gradually over time Shiro recovered. Nanoha grew older and began attending school. The Takamachi family was, once again, in good spirits. Though the lingering frustrations still held on, Nanoha was able to move right along. It was in her early years of school that she met Arisa Bannings and Suzuka Tsukimura. Two girls who would soon become her best of friends. But things weren't always peaches and sweets between the three. Arisa used to be a bully. And Suzuka was her target. It was one day that Nanoha saw just how Alisa was teasing Suzuka over a hair clip, poor Suzuka in tears.
When Alisa wouldn't listen to reason, Nanoha resorted to her fists. It started out as an open-palmed slap, Nanoha dealing the first strike. But that quickly devolved into a miniature catfight. Until Suzuka spoke up and stopped it all. Ever since, the three had been inseparable. Though Arisa and Suzuka still always seemed closer to one another than to Nanoha.
It was her in her Third Year at Infinity Institute that her life took a drastic change. It all started with a dream. Nanoha didn't understand it, or the portents of such an almost prophetic vision about a battered mustelid... But the next day after school, she came across an injured ferret with a strange gem necklace on the way home, after stopping for donuts and meeting a pretty blonde girl with hauntingly sad eyes... That was Nanoha's first glance into the world of magic she was about to be thrust into.
Personality
Nanoha is the kind of girl who lets her head fill right up with so many things and just ends up thinking too much. At least that's how her best friend Arisa Bannings put it. But yes. Nanoha is the kind of girl to dwell on things, leading to an immensely stubborn streak when it comes to certain matters. However because of this, despite her attempts to not show them all the time, Nanoha wears her heart right on her sleeve; to the point where she tries to keep people from worrying about her when she's troubled, or injured.
Nanoha is a genuinely kind girl. Friendly to the extreme, and polite even when faced against someone in a tense environment or even on the battlefield. To call her naïve is not true, but most of the time, she desires to know the exact reasons why people fight, in hopes to try and settle things peacefully. But. She has a determined streak a mile wide. Ambitious and strong willed, when the possibility arises that she can make a friend out of an enemy- genuinely, and without guile- Nanoha will not take no for an answer, leading to, more often than not, an excessive use of force in the process. Like that time she slapped Arisa across the face to stop her from abusing her other best friend, Suzuka, when they first met.
Despite her incredibly straightforward and blunt brute force oriented nature in solving interpersonal problems, Nanoha is intelligent, caring, kind, and stubborn. Incredibly stubborn, because once she sets her heart on a course, there is just no convincing her to change it. And to this effect she pushes herself. She pushes herself to the very limits of her ability and skill, striving to always be the best she can possibly be as a mage. On workaholic levels. Typically to the point where her training is actually a strain on her. However the reason for this is quite simple. Prior to learning about magic, Nanoha had no course in life. No goal, no drive, no passion. When all the other children in her class were asked what they wanted to do in life, they always had an answer. When Nanoha was asked, she always said 'I don't know'. Her family members each had someone they could count on, Shiro and Momoko had each other, Kyoya and Miyuki had each other. Even amid her friends, Arisa and Suzuka seemed closer to each other than to Nanoha, and she had nothing, until she met Yuuno and Raising Heart, the mage and device that GAVE her a purpose. To hunt the Jewel Seeds, to become the best mage she could. To become friends with that girl with the captivating red eyes.
It had all started out as a simple promise to help Yuuno re-capture the Jewel Seeds and to keep them from running amok anymore. Well that promise grows into a pretty close and casual friendship and partnerhood. Which is a fair step up from 'the weird talking ferret I found in the woods'. Yuuno prettymuch has Nanoha's trust to watch her back and support her when she needs it. It's between Raising Heart and Yuuno that she first learns about magic anyway, and takes to listening to the both of them as her instructors and initial- and eventually permanent pillars and fixture of support pretty well.
But that girl... Fate Testarossa. Meeting her is what REALLY solidified Nanoha's wishes. When the two first met in opposition for a Jewel Seed, when Fate first pummeled Nanoha in a soundly catastrophic defeat, she first saw those sad and lonely eyes filled with so much pain, she wanted to know why. They were eyes she could recognize. And easily so, because she had seen them in the mirror whenever alone and reflecting on her lack of goals. But for Fate it was different. There was another reason- the girl had a goal, but Nanoha did not know what it was. That's why Nanoha dedicated herself so much. She wanted to know why Fate fought, why Fate is so sad and pained. As much as she doesn't want to fight her, given no other choice… Nanoha will better herself so she can beat the answer out of her until she can see Fate smile.
Nanoha is a straightforward and caring girl, with loads of passion and determination now that she's found a path to take her life on, and she will blow away anything in her path to achieve her dreams and those of her friends. She is a being of compassion.
Relationships
- First Impact Thoughts:
- Fate Testarossa - ... Why does she have such sad eyes...?
- She can't be a bad person... She said she was sorry, and even took care of me.
- Yuuno Scrya - I have to pass him off as my pet ferret to my family, and it's kind of cute. But he knows so much more about all this than I do!
- Alyce Ducati - She's like some kind of space police person. From the TSAB, Yuuno called it? She stops by Midori-ya sometimes, I think she likes the cake. But she seems pretty nice.
- Tokiko Amagawa - She was there when that first Jewel Seed monster was causing trouble and was the first uh. Real Magical Girl that I got to meet! She's really helpful and encouraging.
- Madobe Kuroi - She seems to hang out with Tokiko a lot. I haven't gotten to know her as well, but hopefully we can change that.
- Ren Aizawa - Another upperclassman from my school who's a mage too. It's kind of cute how her Device sticks up for her, but she's nice.
- Vita - I'm still really sorry about shooting her. But I think she finally accepted my apology without hitting me, so it's okay, right~?
- I'm starting to think she doesn't like me very much...
- Eri Shimanouchi - She's another kind of magical girl called a Puella Magi. We've both helped each other out a few times now, and she even stopped by to visit me after fighting... That Witch...
- I think we both have it kind of rough, don't we.
- Fate Testarossa - ... Why does she have such sad eyes...?
