Early afternoon at Ohtori Academy, and a busy day it is. The last day before the winter semester begins has those who had left the dorms for a few weeks finally moving back in. It's a hectic day of luggage and arguments and panic over undone schoolwork - except for those who stayed in the dorm all semester, for whom it's a day of rest, relaxation, laughing at the former category, and panic over undone schoolwork.
In spite of being in the latter group, Mai has had a busy morning working at Linden Baum. The breakfast special involved a lot of bacon, and the normally-delicious smell was too overwhelming. It's time for something nicer, like plants and flowers. The opportunity to have a few words with Eri about the other night are just a nice bonus. Honest.
"Eri-chan! Are you here? I need to talk to you!" Or possibly the real purpose of Mai's presence. Still dressed in her Linden Baum uniform - albeit with her jacket on for a bit of warmth - and lowering a bright red scarf to call out, the HiME looks around the gardens. Is there no one here, after all? Maybe moving day wasn't the best time to try this...

A knight enters the Gardens from the other side opposite of Mai. Takeo is in his racing bike jacket, which si worn loosely, with a t-shirt and jeans despite the cold. He calls out, having heard a voice but not understand the words, "Eri-Chan? That you?" He steps in and walks around and continues to speak as he does so, "I wanted to get your hel - "
He blinks when he sees Mai. In a watress uniform, and just blinks. " - p. Um... Hi. Mai. San." He looks her over and tilts his head. "I didn't know you had a job? Ummm We're in the same class." He blinks a few times and almsot blushes. This isn't a time to make a fool of himself. "So, you know Eri-chan?" He asks with a raised eyebrow?

The off-duty waitress blinks - and then recoils back a step or two. "Forgot I was wearing this..." She properly takes a look at the other recent arrival to the garden - loose leather jacket, clothes far too light for the season, somewhat familiar face... "Same class... Akamizu-san, wasn't it?"
While she doesn't approach right away, her stance relaxes a bit as she evaluates her out-of-uniform classmate. "Yeah, I just finished the last weekday morning shift I'll have at Linden Baum for a few months. Back to the after-class hours... Anyway, yes I do. She's a good friend, I was hoping to catch her here so I could-" Mai cuts herself off, pauses, and finishes her sentence awkwardly. "...say a few things. Anyway, Takeo Akamizu - right, Eri-chan's mentioned you before. Weren't you in some kendo match or other?"

"Yeah. I'm in the Kendo club." Takeo says with a nod to Mai. "I fought a big match agaisnt Mamoru Chiba which was... Long." He nods once and then looks Mai over again. "I need to eat there more often. I hear they have awesome cupcakes." He nods sagely and then sniffs. "Do.... Do you smell bacon?" He looks around slightly confused. "I swear Eri said she was a vegetarian."

Did Mai smirk at the mention of the Mamoru Chiba match? No, no, can't be. "Maybe I should take Eri up on the suggestion to come watch some kendo matches...and by all means, as long as you tip well." Now, she grins. "Cupcakes are decent, and frankly most guys that come in like the Western-style burgers and dangit." She raises one wrist to her nose, and sniffs. "She is. This morning's special at Linden Baum was bacon and eggs with extra bacon, and I smelled so much of it I might become a vegetarian."

Tilting his head as she reveals that she is the source of the Bacon aroma, "Takeo grins to her. "Well. At least it's a good smell!" Yeah. He's a bit of a carnivore. He looks around and rubs the back of his head. "Not that, you know, you'd smell bad. Or anything. Just... You know. Bacon smells delicious."
H blinks and looks to Mai cheeks alsmot flushing. "Not that you're Delicious! I mean, wait.... " He looks to the ground and clear shis throat. "I need to stop talking..."

Mai gives Takeo a flat stare at that claim. A good smell? Try saying that after getting hit with it for eight hours straight. She's about to interject something to just that effect, and then...
Mai folds her arms over her chest with a huff. "And do you make a habit of calling girls 'delicious', Akamizu-san? Maybe I should warn Eri-chan about you." She's grinning as she says this, and the tone's clearly a teasing one by the end.

Takeo Akamizu is not looking up, he's just kind of red and shaking his head. "N-No, I- I didn't mean, I meant I - I -" He then looks up to see the grinning and teasing tone. "Vous appréciez ce oui?" He blinks and rolls his eyes. Great. He's speaking French again.

Mai's grin turns to bafflement when Takeo says....something. English? No, she's getting good enough grades there to know that that probably wasn't English. German? Australian? Australian's a language, right? "Erm. Say that last bit again? Was that the secret language of the bacon-lovers or something?"

"C'est le français." Takeo says evenly with a shurg. "It's French. I know, a little, and it sometimes slips out." Okay it slips out a lot lately. But that is okay. He nods and then smiles. "I don't think it's a secret Bacon Lover's language. Just another language." He rubs the back of his neck. "So. Um Eri-Chan. How'd you meet her?"

French. Huh. Maybe this guy isn't just a reckless type. Mai keeps her arms folded, but shifts her footing a bit to lean on her left side a bit more. "Kind of a weird language to know - is that where you're from, or something?"
As for how Mai met Eri, it takes her a moment to recall. "Slow day at Linden Baum, she was basically the only customer, and we got to talking. Shared frustration with the student council." She glances to that towering building for a moment. "Anyway, we got to know each other better after we both...went to the same yoga class, I think." Another odd pause thrown in mid-sentence - but Mai rushes ahead. "How about you?"

"Oh. I'm not from France. I'm from here. Well not here here. But like Tokyo here. So. Here." He tilts his head at the mention of Yoga and blinks several times. For the briefest of moments he pictures.
He blushes again and looks away clearing his throat. He clears it a few more times and then says by way of answering, "Oh. We uhh..." Battled a Youma formed out of our stolen Homework and then I snuck into the Girl's Dormatories becuase I saw her transform while I was Lancelot. You know, how most people here at Ohtori meet. This is what wants to say. Instead he say with that blush, "Oh. some girls were picking on her at Lunch. So I pretended to be an interested guy. You know, High schooler, interested in a Middle Schooler. I thought it would give her some credit, and they'd leave her alone. I made things worse." He shrugs and sighs. "It worked out in the end. But yeah. I made a slight mistake, she forgave me because I was jsut trying to eb a helpful guy. We've been friends since." At least that's the truth. Even it was their second encounter, and not their first.

Mai nods at the explanation. And then Takeo seems to be thinking over yoga, and...blushing?! A thunderous expression comes over her face, and she starts to advance on Takeo to have a word or two with him. Pointedly. At high volume. She pauses in her tracks as he starts to explain, listens - and if anything, she glowers more. "Of course it did! What in the world were you thinking - the most that does is make you look like a creep!"
The storm doesn't quite pass, but diminishes as Takeo finishes the story - she can't help but smile a moment. "Eri-chan's a good person like that - helpful, forgiving." And the fury returns. "Which means you're danged lucky, mister! And while I'm on the topic, don't you dare imagine one more moment of yoga class or hot springs!" She folds her arms again, and half-turns away with a huff.

Hot Springs?!
He hadn't thought about HOT SPRINGS until she brought it up. "Pourquoi est-ce toujours arriver à moi?" Takeo asks the world above as he tries very ahrd not to blush or anything else. He clears his thraot and nods to Mai. "Yeah. I'm not really known for ... thinking things through." He shrugs a shoulder. "Or ... thinking ... Like. Ever." He sighs and holds up hands to Mai, "I'm .. I wasn't trying to be a creep! I was trying to help her! I mean, they were being really mean to her! You girls like rampaging monsters on each other, it's like world war girl or something!"

Mai Tokiha is watching you....but he's actually trying. Kind of. "You should give it a try, it's got a lot going for it." But after another moment's chill, she finally unfolds her arms, and sighs. "As long as your heart's in the right place, I guess."
She turns back to Takeo, and seems to accept his surrender. "That kind of thing does happen, and I suppose you couldn't exactly ask Eri if she needs help. Though I'd suggest against pretending to be her boyfriend unless you're prepared to follow through." And oh, does she ever have teasing material now. "...by the way, you slipped into what I think was French again."

Pinching the bridg eof his nose, nad wishing for just a minute Lancelot would let him have a nose bleed like any other boy, Takeo says, "C'est parce que j'ai maintenant des images de vous et Eri au Hot Springs ! Il y a au moins les maill- nope. Je suis en difficulté." He takes a deep breath and then looks to mai and smiles mastering his control over which language he is speaking thanks to practice. He thinks for a moment, and then says evenly, "So. Nothing meant here.... But... The Garden isn't the best place for a chat, especially when I'm making an idiot of myself." He offers an arm and smiles a slightly roguish and charming smile, "Wanna get a cupcake?"
- SUBTITLES: "It's because NOW I have images of you and Eri at the Hot Springs! At least there is bathing sui- Nope. I'm in trouble."

In spite of Mai's commentary, Takeo continues babbling in French. She puts it largely out of mind - until a couple of words sound like English. Maybe it's the same in both languages? And that translates to...
Mai's eyes narrow. "What, exactly, might you be imagining now?" He's offering an arm, and trying to be charming, and Mai turns a bit pink. And even more stern - she just holds up one hand and starts ticking on her fingers. "One, I think you're rushing things a bit, there. Two, I've frankly had enough dating-related drama for one week. Three - I've been gone from Linden Baum for ten minutes and the place is going to be smelling like bacon all day. I need to get home and have a bath."
She pauses, and evaluates Takeo again - and he will be getting such a glare if it looks like he's imagining anything else inappropriate. "But tell you what. You're free to go get a bacon-topped cupcake for yourself. They'll probably do it if you ask politely."

"That sounds.... Amzing...." is said about the cupcake before Takeo shake shis head. "Imagining? OH! IMAGINING. HA HA HA NOTHING. WHY WOULD YOU THINK I WAS IMAGINING?" He clears his throat realizing he might be laod. Go ahead French speaker. Abandon me now... He grins to Mai, "I'm not meaning anything by the arm, jsut trying to be polite. Like a Knight. Or something. I'm sorry if THAT offended you, I've been reading a lot about European Knights lately and i probably did it out of habbit." He rubs the back of his neck. "If I'd been offering like a date or anything, I'd have offered to take you there on my motor bike. It's Red. It's kinda rad." He grins over to her. "Also, there is Bakery. The Cupcakes are not as good, but they are delicious, becuase you know, it's hard to mess up a cup cake."
He clears his throat. And now there is a bath discussion. Puppies, Puppies, Rainbows kitten, comic books, video games, think of anything else! He has kind of a confused look for a moment as all these random thoughts go tumbling through his head. "Look. I'm not good. At this." He gestures to her and then him. "And by THIS I mean speaking to people."

The sarcasm, it flows. "Oh, I have no idea whatsoever..." Mai's glare has been toned down to half-serious from its former setting of 'if looks could set someone on fire', though she's still evaluating his sincerity. Once is an accident, twice is coincidence, three times is Ohtori hormones. "A knight? Kind of an odd hobby, but...kind of like noble samurai, right? Try to do that more, sure."
The offer is considered, and Mai finally shakes her head. "Motorcycles aren't my thing, and I seriously want to just get home and into normal clothes. I've got to get groceries, then make supper and probably lunches for the next day or two... So I'll pass on the cupcakes. And...yeah, I know the type." A moment's thought for Chiba-san. "Just try to think before speaking, and I'll try not to go too hard on you."
...she's smirking. Takeo might be in trouble.

Takeo Akamizu gulps and nods once to Mai. "Gotcha. No problem. Think before speaking. I cna do that." He nods emphatically. and then bows his head. He slowly begins to back away from girl who may or may not destroy him in class tomorrow. He sighs and just hopes he didn't make TOO much of an idiot of himself. Only a small one.

Mai watches him back away, and satisfaction fades as she also turns to go. Was she too hard, maybe? He does seem kind of like another Mamoru Chiba, only somehow worse...faced away from her classmate, she's free to sigh. And then, Mai calls over her shoulder. "Akamizu-san!"
Once his footsteps stop, she continues. "Seriously, though, go to Linden Baum. Given that you were calling me delicious, you'd probably enjoy whatever bacon special the manager put in for the afternoon. Ask Akane nicely if you could try a bacon-topped cupcake, she has the cook's ear." And then she turns, and while she's still smirking she at least looks like she's trying to be nice about it. "Just know that if you do cause trouble I will find out."

Upon hearing his name, Takeo cirnges and peeks around a corner carefully, so as to not suddnely discover that Mai was hiding a hammer in her purse. Or Pocket. He hears about teh bacon, grins, and blushes and then bows, european style in a manner that says he si VERY talented at thsi sort of bow. Like he's been doing it for decades almost. "Par votre commande ma dame." He gives Mai a wink, and then says witha wave, "See you in class tomorrow Mai-san!" And then moves away, at a safe yet fast pace.
