Seika Miuchi is a girl from a wealthy background currently attending Juuban Kotogakko in Tokyo. A dignified young woman notable for her private-school mannerisms and for being one of the school's preeminent ojous, she leads a double life - largely at night - as Masque Feu, a member of the ancient order of the Soeurs of the Silver Star.

History

Seika Miuchi was born on July 7, 1997, at 6:07 a.m. That is a special moment because it is when a a silver shooting star passed over the Earth, undetectable to science.

She was born in Nagoya to Yukio, a wealthy vice-president of marketing for an electronics company, and Shizuka, a highly successful model. She had one sibling, brother Shirou, about eight years older than her. With her father often jetting around the world on business and her mother doing the same, Seika and Shirou scarcely knew their parents and grew up largely in the care of the family's maid and child keeper.

Growing up with little influence from her parents led Seika to mould herself around Shirou's more outgoing character in some ways. She never lost her basic dutiful, obedient nature or her interest in one day being a successful woman of high class, but she also picked up Shirou's streak of independence. As a young student at a prestigious elementary school in Nagoya she started off soft-spoken and retiring, but bythird grade she gained an outward air of confidence drawn in part from her mom's elegant-rich-girl act and her brother's wilful streak. As she came out of her shell, she began to get involved in the elementary school's extracurricular world, filling her life with school to try and make up for her parents' absence in her home life. By the time middle school rolled around, Seika was popular enough to be voted class president at her academy in Nagoya. She stayed there for her middle school years, where a good teacher helped her learn that maturity could be cool.

Just after Seika turned 14, though, her family moved to Tokyo after her father scored a big promotion, which would necessitate even more travel for he and Seika's mom. Seika was taken out of school. For lack of time for her to take an entrance exam at Ohtori - and frankly at her own insistence, she finding the Ohtori school grounds blood-curdlingly uncomfortable when she took a tour - she ended up at Juuban with the rest of the hoi polloi. She managed to squeeze the entrance exam in just in time after a serious cram session and ended up acing it, though she had trouble with the English language segment. She found herself at something of a disadvantage at first because she came from a rich background and most of her peers did not, but she soon began winning a heart or two - then more - by flashing a faint smile past her usual icy, queenlike cool now and then. She ended up being named class rep in the ninth grade and developed a reputation as a straight-up ojou. She joined up with the baseball team and developed a wicked pitching arm, and she joined the music club, demonstrating a breathtaking singing voice. Come tenth grade, she ran for student council again and was elected secretary of the high school student government, relishing the chance to get that involved.

Fast forward to Sep. 6, 2013, when Seika stayed late for a round of softball and missed her bus on the way back to the apartment near the school her parents rented for her but she lives in alone. At the bus stop, though, a high-pitched male voice called out to her. She looked around for the voice, but found no men around. Assuming it was just a prank, she got on the bus and left the voice behind after just a few seconds.

When she got home she called up her brother, who was now a shipping worker in Tokyo, to tell him about her awesome game of softball that day. He didn't answer. She found out why the next day: Shirou had gone missing the same night. A worried Seika gave what info she could to the police, but after three days they turned up nothing.

On the fourth day, she came home - only to find a turtledove had somehow gotten into her apartment and perched on the back of her armchair. After a startling encounter, the two visited an empty portside warehouse, encountering Shirou being fed a cup of blood by a group of dead-eyed vampires. The dove explained the vampires had picked up Shirou mistakenly, but they'd been seeking her, because she was born under a silver star at a moment of fate and power. Moments later, he passed off a blessed mask to her. Long story short, she donned the mask and promptly transformed into Masque Feu, magical maiden of the blessed flame. The dove subsequently guided the thoroughly nonplussed Masque Feu through stomping the crap out of the vampires, then explained the story behind it all: As Masque Feu, she would be one of the Soeurs of the Silver Star, charged with stopping a demon called the Night Lord. Long sealed away in an urn, the demon had been unleashed in Tokyo - as had the spirit of the strongest of the Soeurs, Masque Croix, who locked her own soul into the urn to ensure the Night Lord would remain sealed.

Under Augustine's guidance, Seika began to embrace being Masque Feu, using her powers to safeguard the night, to seek out more of her comrades, the Soeurs of the Star, including Masque Croix - and to save Shirou.

Personal Traits

The TVTropes version is that Seika Miuchi is the Ojou and a Class Representative but is also a Type 2 Kuudere and a Lonely Rich Girl to boot. Her glasses hint at a soft Meganekko side in there.

Outwardly Seika can be regal, with a coolness about her that makes her somewhat difficult to get close to, but enough hints of her softer side creep through that she remains approachable. She's not one to hit someone with unsolicited unkind words because she's unfailingly polite and graceful to just about everyone at first glance. She controls her emotions to such an extent that she only lets small signs show outwardly. A faint, short-lived shadow of a smile from her is as close as she gets to laughing, and a larger smile carries a lot of weight because she doesn't share them all that often. She doesn't yell so much as furrow her brows a bit and speak in a low, commanding voice with an imperial, frigid edge. But she's also prone to offering up quiet words of encouragement or offering a classmate in need a bit of a helping hand, particularly with academic pursuits.

Seika is in fact a a kind person, but she's also fiercely independent and doesn't like to rely on others unless she has to. She's someone who likes to take the lead and have all the answers, because her parents have seldom been there to help her find the answers she's needed; she's used to simply having them on her own.

Seika is a fantastic vocalist and tends to be the one schools call upon whenever they need a lead singer, and she's prone to busting out her most glamorous dresses for the occasion. Singing allows her to get her pent-up, well-concealed emotions off her chest, and doing it makes her feel good about herself for a little while. She's also active on Juuban's baseball team. She's good at it for a high schooler but she'll never go any further than that because she balances out a lethal fireball of a pitching arm with a fairly rotten batting average. She also runs a little book club where she and a few like-minded nerdy girls get together and share reading recommendations and book reviews. She loves reading; she tends to spend her downtime devouring books. She carries a BlackBerry, not an iPhone, and considers doing so a point of pride. Her Twitter handle is @MiuchiSeika and she takes great pride in posting with good grammar and spelling, though she mostly links to local news articles. She also has a Facebook but mostly uses it to connect with her friends and post the occasional picture of her dinner, which she inevitably buys pre-made or frozen or just has delivered, since her cooking is generally on par with fresh dookie in terms of taste.

Despite having a driver to ferry her around, she also holds a light motorcycle license and rolls around town on a 10-year-old Suzuki FXR150 she bought herself from some dude in Saitama. She loves motorcycles in general - it's one of her non-girly interests - and is basically counting the days until she's 18 and can get the straight-up full-power sport bike she wants. She doesn't want a car because she can never figure out where her bumpers are and tends to hit poles, walls and other cars a lot.

Theme Connections

  • Shirou Miuchi: Even after Shirou, Seika's older brother, went off into the world and chose to forsake his inheritance to become a working stiff in the shipping business, Seika kept in regular contact with him. The two are closer than most siblings because they grew up in a home where their parents were often absent. More than anyone in the world, Seika trusts Shirou to help her with her problems and guide her. Of course, now he's been snapped up by the Midnight Circle and Seika doesn't know why. More importantly, she's without the person closest to her, and she's been left to try and take his independent thinking to heart and blaze her own path. She'd sell her own mother to try and find him again.
  • Yukio and Shizuka Miuchi: Seika's parents play a role in her life but it's mostly in abstentia. They're the source of Seika's trust fund and bank account and they ensure she lives a life of privilege, but they're also never there because Yukio's away on business most of the year and Shizuka jets around the world being a model. Part of Seika wants to be a successful businessperson, and she once held her mother's air of casual glamour up as an ideal, but she also deeply resents them for not being there for her and leaving her to try and find affection from others. The truth is that she is not very close to either of them and they have very little in common, and she's bitter enough at what she sees as their effective abandonment of her that she's given up trying to love them beyond the general sense of unconditional love a child has for a parent. Their interactions are stiff and seem like going through the motions of what a parent and child relationship should be.
  • Augustine the Heretic: Seika's first impression of Augustine, the Soeurs' turtledove mentor, was to wonder how a bird could talk - but she's begun to warm up to him a little and has slotted him mentally as a coworker and a teacher. While she respects his knowledge of the Midnight Circle and believes he can help her be the best magical girl she can be so she can find her brother, she likes him personally - he's earnest, even if his views on the world are kind of skewed and archaic because he's a 600-year-old bird now. She is not above feeding him birdseed.

Friends

In general, Seika does not consider most people friends even when they are, as she generally thinks most people simply see the surface of her and not who she actually is. Her assessment may be untrue.

  • Fate Testarossa: One of the few people Seika has met who understands what it's like to be her - specifically, to struggle with feeling unconditional love for parents who do not return it. Seika met Fate for the first time by standing in front of a blast from Precia Testarossa to try and spare the tiny girl's life despite not actually knowing her, and she feels a certain kinship with her younger friend - and a strong need to stand with her to make sure she grows up happy.
  • Nori Ankou: While Seika cannot really do the elegant gothic aristocrat look herself, she does genuinely like this girl, even if the relationship is somewhat new and still a little tentative - and she's delighted to have a friend who is also a more classy sort, just like she tends to be.
