School: Juuban Public School

Jump to: navigation, search

Juuban School District is a set of publicly-operated schools in the Shitamachi region of Tokyo. Schools here share a fairly similar architectural plan - as many stories as grade levels with a fairly nondescript, gray, a U-shaped main school building, athletic fields, and usually a club building. Juuban schools cover every grade level, from elementary through to high school, each feeding into the next. There is also an associated college in the area, though it is for the most part overshadowed by higher-prestige universities.

Juuban's academic achievements are on the whole pretty typical. Students of every level go there, from the super-rich to the super-genius to the occasional poor fool; though many people looking for an exceptional education or specific focuses can find their needs met at the private and charter schools elsewhere, Juuban finds academic challenges for everyone, from the most low to the most high, rather than a chosen few elite.

As far as extracurricular activities go, Juuban has the usual grab-bag determined mainly by student interest and administrative tolerance. Reading, computer clubs, even some foreign language and science clubs abound. Sports are much the same, with a solid soccer team and an unexpectedly vibrant girls' lacrosse team.

Juuban, then, is what most people think of when they consider a typical school experience in the city of Tokyo. Players interested in that school experience, the day-to-day backdrop to stranger events found in many themes, should consider Juuban their destination. That's the story of Juuban's school district...but not all of Juuban's students are all that ordinary.

Juuban is a place of very subtle mysteries. The class rep starts acting weird one day; is he having problems at home, or has he been possessed by the spirit of a long-lost artifact? The hard-eyed substitute teacher can't seem to take his eyes off the girl in the back row; is it forbidden romance? Or has the Steel Kingdom finally found Sparkle Ruby!? And why hasn't anyone seen the janitor this year? The halls are all so clean...

A place to hide in plain sight; a place to ferret out the subtle mysteries of everyday magic. These are the stories of Juuban.

History

There is no real history file to be had for Juuban; its history is the history of Japanese public education, which is very dry and not particularly interesting.

Except for all the secret vampires.

Student Council

Juuban's student councils are composed of its class representatives (these are the people elected by each class to call "rise! bow!" at the start and end of a given lecture, plus other, less anime-featured paperwork responsibilities, plus a President, Vice-President, Treasurer and Secretary for each of the elementary, middle, and high school sections. These elections are run fairly, and tend to feature a great deal of spirited campaigning by students who care, and studious indifference by those who do not. The High, Middle and Elementary School student councils are all entirely separate in scope (not surprising, given that Juuban has separate Elementary, Middle and High School campuses, albeit all in the same neighborhood), but they often work together for Sister Schools events.

If you'd like to join the Student Council (new characters can easily be retconned in), please contact the Staff on-game.

Clubs

Juuban's clubs are the most community-oriented of the Sister schools, with an emphasis on school spirit and inclusivity. When their clubs split, it's generally to accommodate more people rather than out of any sense of rivalry.

This list may be edited by any player who wishes to note the on-camera existence of their club. There are many other clubs at Juuban not listed here because they don't currently have any player characters in them.

Clubs of Juuban

Anime Club

For appreciation and inhalation of this finest of media.

Members: Hikaru Shidou, Ichigo Momomiya

Astronomy Club

For appreciation and study of the night sky.

Members: Minoke Kobayashi

Cheerleading Squad

The club that supports other clubs in their efforts, with an emphasis on acrobatics.

Members: Sakura Kinomoto

Cooking Club

From chicken katsu to Christmas cakes, it's all made here. Club creations are often served at schoolwide events.

Members: Ichigo Momomiya, Makoto Kino

Drama Club

To be or not to be, that is the question...

Members: Nagisa Misumi, Renjiro Masaki

Gymnastics Club

Almost exclusively catering to the Rhythmic kind of Gymnastics, this club has a high focus on posture, balance, and elegance. Though all are welcome to train and express themselves as they see fit, those who perform exceedingly well are encouraged to participate in competitions against the Sister Schools. Club advisor Pakkyalamao-sensei's eccentric beliefs will occasionally force its members to engage in activities that have little or nothing at all to do with gymnastics.

Members: Maron Kusakabe, Minoke Kobayashi

Karate Club

Discipline, respect, control and self-defense, in roughly that order.

Members: Iona Hikawa

Kendo Club

The proudest of Japan's martial arts, samurai philosophy is taught alongside swordplay.

Members: Hikaru Shidou

Lacrosse Club

A particularly tightly-knit sports team, supportive to each other even when things go wrong. The club goes to the woods for training every summer, under the guidance of former member Akane Fujita, who takes time out of her current job running a takoyaki stand to support the younger girls by guest-coaching.

Members: Nagisa Misumi (first home, jersey 7), Shiho Kubota, Rina Takashimizu.

Rugby Club

A team that melds seriousness for the sport with merrily good sportsmanship.

Members: Endo Naoki

Science Club

Moreso than many clubs, Juuban's Science Club is at a huge disadvantage to Ohtori Academy and Infinity Institute when it comes to equipment and resources, but they don't seem to notice. They're too busy having fun designing and performing endless experiments, and using the principles of science to create candy, perfume, and shockingly sophisticated simulations of everything from abiogenesis to zero-energy buildings.

Members: Honoka Yukishiro

Track and Field Club

Your heart pounding in time with your feet. The wind whipping through your hair. Sparkles shedding from your body as you vault the high jump.

Members: Sakura Kinomoto, Setsuna Higashi, Kyouka Okazaki
