Mayuko Kuonji / Kaleidragoon Topaz

Quote

"Wielding the sky's wrath in her hand, an unbreakable paragon of courage stands against the forces of chaos! Kaleidragoon Topaz! Ryujin!"

Profile

Mayuko is a sweet, friendly high-class girl, a lover of sports (Specially cycling) and also a little bit tomboyish. She loves making friends, and would do anything for them. However, she's not devoid of negative qualities, unfortunately. She is impetuous, she can jump to conclusions very quickly and, since she has memory, her family has been marked by the not-so-friendly rivalry between her sister and her. To add in to the fun, one day she finds a very large, very strange, egg-shaped yellow gemstone on her bed. She had never seen a precious stone as huge as that one! But sadly she could not dwell in how much money she could obtain from selling it for long, because the egg hatched a few minutes later. Now she is the owner of a small talking dragon who insists that she was chosen to become one of the guardians of an artifact of incredible power. Not that she doesn't like it, though. She's actually ecstatic about the idea of being a warrior of love and justice protecting the innocent.

History

Mayuko Kuonji is the daughter of a wealthy heir, Gozaburo Kuonji, and a powerful businesswoman, Hanabi Asazuki, as well as sister to a girl 2 years older than her, Ageha.

Mayuko lived in a world of luxury and wealth ever since the first day. Good clothing, expensive food, all the whims she could ever think of having… And of course, love too, but not as much love from her parents and sister as she would have wanted. Gozaburo and Hanabi loved her, yes, but at times they were unable to tend to their daughter’s affective needs because of work, and Ageha saw her as the reason why their parents never had any time for her anymore.

The time came for Mayuko to start going to school. Just like her mother and her sister did back in the day, she would be enrolled in Ohtori Academy. At first, Mayuko was not very fond of the idea, she was yet another rich kid in a school of rich kids that behaved somewhat more strangely than most rich kids. However, when she started making friends, she liked the idea a little bit more, and school life proved to be a blast. Not just because she could boast about studying and getting better grades than the people she didn’t like, but also because she could play with her friends, engage in sports competitions and, perhaps a bit less adequate, play pranks on both teachers and students of higher courses, always making sure that they were not discovered, of course. She learned to hate bullies and protect other classmates from them with all the effort she could muster, as well as put her all both in studies and sports competitions, simply to prove she was the best. This earned her the admiration of those she protected, and also the ire of those she opposed. Such was her magnetic personality. Feuds and friendships were forged, alliances were signed… But above all other relationships, the one that marked her the most was the silent, but evident feud with Ageha, a feud that Mayuko did not understand at all, and that would remain, firmly rooted, for all the years Mayuko spent in Ohtori. Time ultimately filled the void in her heart that her sister left, albeit only slightly, and still she felt that she was missing something. All the attention she got from her schoolmates was not actual love.

That was going to change, however, when one fated night, the magic that cast the Prismatic Infinity Carat and the six dragon eggs tasked with its protection sent one of those eggs to Ohtori, on Mayuko’s dorm bed, while she was sleeping. The morning after, before Mayuko’s astonished eyes, it hatched, revealing a small yellow dragon: Rimanah.

Rimanah, infused with knowledge granted to her by the magic that brought her to Earth, greeted Mayuko and talked about what she was doing there: She talked to her about the magic world of Altago, of the legacy of queen Io, and of how Mayuko had been chosen by fate to retrieve and protect the fragments of Io's crown, the Prismatic Infinity Carat, from Uraut, a wicked witch who coveted them for her own dark purposes. Mayuko could not give credit to her ears. This was almost like the plot of the magical girl animes she loved! Obviously, with such a call to adventure being made to her, how could she refuse? She offered her help to little Rimanah, and so their bond was made. She would have preferred that the bond hadn’t been sealed with a rough bite from the dragon to her wrist, but… Well, she can’t complain much. Rimanah insisted that getting bit was necessary for their lifeforces to link together.

And that was when their quest began. Little did she know of the many revelations that would happen before her...

Attacks

Lightning Fencer
Mayuko rises her sword to the sky, and lightning strikes it, charging it. Mayuko then charges forward, holding the blade with both hands before slashing in a wide arc, unleashing an electric discharge together with the sword’s impact. The discharge can leave the opponent shocked and with its limbs numb, unable to move.

Plasma Thunder Flash
Mayuko rises her sword to the sky, lightning strikes it, then she aims it at the opponent from afar. What is gonna happen is actually pretty obvious, and Mayuko is exactly counting on that, because when lightning surges out from the sword’s blade, and then dodge it, only to step back in place, believing that lightning doesn't strike twice on the same spot, Mayuko amuses herself proving them that her lightning indeed DOES strike twice on the same spot, as a second lightning surges from the sword and impacts exactly on the same place as the first one did. Mayuko always has a laugh when her enemy falls for that. That flash of light resulting from the lightning strike can also dazzle the foe if they don’t cover their face quickly.

Storm Calibur
Mayuko rises her hand to the sky and loudly calls out for the fury of the storm to come to her hand. Lightning (What else?) falls into her hand and takes the shape of a huge sword, much larger than the one she usually carries. However, despite its size and heavy-looking aspect, Mayuko can actually make lightning fast swings with it. It is stronger than the regular blade, but also harder to evade due to its speed.

Lightning Dragon Crash
Description: Mayuko and Rimanah are covered in electric energy, then fly at top speed towards the opponent, ramming it face on then pushing it down to the ground, the impact sounding like a lightning striking earth.

Finishers

Plasma Storm Exhalation
This is Rimanah’s finisher. During it, she flies up to the sky, directly above the opponent, and takes a very deep breath in, charging electric energy into her mouth, before exhaling it all in an enormous torrent of plasma that falls directly over the enemies, exploding in a ball of lightning that covers a considerable area.

Storm Calibur - Sky Wrath Execution
This is Mayuko’s finisher proper. If Mayuko has not yet called the Storm Calibur. She does so now. Then, she recites an incantation:

“I, who stand as emissary of the sky, call you,
who protect the innocent from the poisoned grips of darkness…
Come forth, divine lightning!”

Runes on the Storm Calibur’s blade flare with yellow light, until it bursts in golden lightning and extends into an energy that is even longer than the original Storm Calibur. Following this, Mayuko grips the Storm Calibur with both hands, jumps off Rimanah and falls towards the opponent, spinning to cast a wide downward swing on them, splitting them in two with a single, clean cut. Usually, the hapless villain explodes shortly after that, and Rimanah dives to recover Mayuko before they both strike the obligatory victory pose.

Relationships

Family

  • Gozaburo Kuonji (Extra): Mayuko's father - He is the heir of a wealthy and powerful high-class family. Not exactly an idle rich, but he has much more time to attend to his daughters than her wife has. Mayuko is much closer to her father than her mother because of this.
  • Hanabi Kuonji (Extra): Mayuko's mother - She is the CEO of HATCOM, a highly successful videogame development company. Her work keeps her away most of the time, but she always tries her darnedest to spend some time with her two daughters at least once a month. Prior to her attendance to college, she studied in Ohtori Academy, and while she doesn't speak of it, Gozaburo suspects she may still be seeing a classmate from her time there in a more-than-friendly way.
  • Ageha Kuonji (Extra, but can be apped): Mayuko's older sister - Harbors animosity towards Mayuko for reasons as of yet unknown, although it is hinted that part of it may stem from the feeling that she last lost the attention of their parents in favor of Mayuko. Ageha's behavior causes Mayuko no small amount of anguish and confusion. Mayuko tries her hardest to get into her sister's heart, find the reasons behind her animosity and try to put an end to it, but to no avail.

Friends

  • Sayuri Nagakawa (Extra, but can be apped): One of Mayuko's classmates at Ohtori Academy. Sayuri was an Alpha Brat who loved playing pranks on Mayuko. However, one day, she swallowed more than she could chew and got herself in trouble with the Ohtori Student Council, because of an incident that involved rope, jewelry and an unhealthy amount of mayonaisse. Mayuko pleaded for her and saved her hide, which surprised many a person in the school grounds. Since then, Sayuri regards Mayuko as her heroine and has become a much kinder person.
  • Eri Shimanouchi: Mayuko got a chance to talk with Eri when she skipped school and Mayuko followed her out of a feeling that something was amiss with the girl. After an isolated youma event involving giant roaches, Mayuko offered Eri a ride on Rimanah as a token of their newfound friendship. Much squeeing and fangirling ensued. Recently, Mayuko has confided some of her personal problems to Eri, particularly issues with her older sister Ageha.

Unknown Quantities

  • JJH Class President: Mayuko has met this mysterious girl twice already, and both of them always involved bug infestations. There is something fishy about this girl, but Mayuko can't pinpoint exactly what, other than the very contrived coincidences of their encounters.
