Lying in her bed and starring at the ceiling, Akira Moto's sleep has been erratic at best. The darkness has been pierced by the glow of moonlight as it peers through the window. Her violet gaze has been transfixed on the space above her for the past hour. Or maybe it's only been ten minutes? Time just doesn't seem so important right now. Its been less then a week since her entire universe, contained in a small bubble, was broken and a much bigger universe came rushing in. Nothing has been normal since.
It felt like weeks had passed since Fu had sat down with her and opened her eyes. Three days had passed though. In that time, Akira has used the app three times. The second time was the most intense. It was the point where any doubts or delusions that this was all a dream had been shattered leaving only the truth of the matter. She is a Magical girl, A Hero, and she is far from alone in this. It was that time that has lead her to this point. Her time as a Hero could have been cut short if not for her Fairy appearing and blocking the blade from going through her neck. That event has been plaguing her dreams for the past two nights.
The silence of the night is shattered by the sound of the front door opening. Akira climbs out of bed as she hears the light switch flip on. That's her mom. Quietly she walks out, "Hi Mom." She walks towards the kitchen and puts on the kettle. She smiles and walks over to her Mother who is just getting settled in and gives her a hug.
"Akira-chan what are you doing awake, you have school tomorrow. You should be in bed." The exhausted middle aged woman states.
Akira just smiles, "I had a bad dream. I just figured I'd have some tea with you before I go back to bed." She states as she sits down.
Her mother smiles and nods. "Alright. But as soon as you are done, its back to bed." She states. Her mother sits down in exhaustion. "Akira-chan, I have some news for you. I need to go back to Kyoto. Your grandmother has come down ill again. You are going to stay here."
Akira frowns and blinks a few times, "What? Why!? Momma! Don't you want me to come help? How are you going to work and help Grandma. You can't do it all yourself."
"It's alright dear. I can handle this on my own. Besides, things are still shaky from the last time you were there. So I am going to send you money so you can take care of yourself. I trust you, Akira-chan."
Akira looks in silence at her mother. This was a lot of responsibility. The sharp whistle of the kettle causes her to get up and go pour two cups of the hot tea into a pair of cups. She returns to her mother and hands one to her before sipping at the other. "So, I am going to be here alone."
"I'm so sorry Akira-chan, You have school here and you have your clubs. You should be enjoying your time at school. I am putting a lot of trust in your dear. Make me proud and, no fighting, okay?"
Akira blushes in shame. "Yes Mama. I will be on my best behavior." She sips at more of her tea. If she only knew about her newest extra-curricular activity. It is one that she can never tell her about. "Mama, when are you leaving?"
Her mother sips at her tea and then speaks up, "I will be taking a flight tomorrow night. I will be back for Christmas." She looks sad. There is something she's not talking about but she doesn't even partially show that.
Akira begins to tear up, "But... Mama! I don't want to be alone." She hangs her head.
"Akira-chan. No tears, okay? You are old enough to handle this and I know you will do wonderful. I have faith in you. I will be back before you know it. We will talk tomorrow. Now, get to bed. I don't want to find out that your school work is lagging."
Akira fights back her tears. She sets her teacup aside and returns to her room without a single word. The girl's shattered heart weighs her down and as she sinks into her bed, she breaks down and lets out those painful tears that she struggled so hard to conceal.
