The bell signaling lunch hour's start has rung not long ago, and students are making their way around campus to whatever lunch engagements they had planned. Clouds have been gathering all morning, and few students are daring to dine outside - there's whispers that it could even get cold enough for snow later, though the forecasts have been going either way on that front.
Uncaring of the potential for a sudden rainstorm, however, is Mai. She's found a bench in the gardens to just collapse on, a wrapped bento box by her side, and her breath is heavy enough to dance in the air like smoke. A late start meant that she'd had to run to the middle school immediately after class to deliver Takumi's lunch - she made it in time, but lost track of Mikoto in the chaos. So...it looks like she might be dining alone.
Just as soon as she cools down from her momentary overheat. A brief break is warranted - she loosens her scarf, and just lets her head tilt back for a minute.

Kinzo Hiroyuki had an umbrella today. It might rain. He held it in his offhand as he thought about the discussion a few days back in the clubhouse, and a discussion with that-- HiME of the Wind on the rooftop near the airport. He had indeed, kept his distance from Mai. It felt like the right thing to do, primarily, because the other voice in his head was 'I should totally creep that girl'. Usually Kinzo does the opposite. Dark Amber's memories and inclinations are never good advice.
He was seeking out Mai, however, and had in fact seen her dashing with bento boxes in hand into the gardens. He tilts his head and huhs as he walks into the Gardens after her. He peeks in. Look left. Look right. No Eri. She must be busy elsewhere. It's mostly empty.
He does, however- manage to catch Mai sitting on the bench and sighhhs, closing his eyes, he approaches her and gives a wave. "Hello, Mai." he says with a short smile, Umbrella hanging at his side a little loosely, hanging off of his off wrist. "Uhm. You were kind of running there a moment, is everything okay?" he asks a little.

Someone's called Mai by name. Not one of the voices she knows well, but one she has heard before. Slowly, she moves back into a normal sitting position, looking at whoever it was to greet her. It's a moment or two before recognition sets in - and she gives a polite smile, even as she holds up one hand. Take a minute to catch her breath, then respond.
"Hiroyuki-san, wasn't it? I'm all right." She takes in, then releases another deep breath - still hot enough to make a bit of fog in the air. "Just doing a quick delivery, across half the campus - penance for sleeping in a few minutes this morning, I guess. What brings you here today - because if it's classes, you're kind of out of uniform there."

Kinzo Hiroyuki tsks. "I don't attend Ohtori!... and I'm out for the day." he says. He slips over to the bench and has a seat next to you, but also careful to not sit on top of your bento boxes. He sighs himself, this also makes that puff of foh. "I felt kinda bad about my first approach, so kinda not trying to blindsid you in an alley this time." he says.
"I had a few discussions with some people and decided It was time to check up on you." he says. "No one's tried barreling themselves at you screaming about Pure Essence or anything like that... or no odd acting strangers around you, right?" he wonders with a little concern.
"I've been trying to not bother you about it... but well... the Perfumes all chided me for not checking in more oftern, and then I met some... HiMe of the Wind, who also seemed concerned when we talked about it." he says.

There's only the one bento box to be careful of - a small pink one, which Mai snatches up as Kinzo approaches to sit. After a moment, she slides away another few centimeters, giving him that much more room. "Well, it's broad daylight and you weren't lurking, so already you're up a few points." She smirks.
Mai does take a few moments to think things over, then shakes her head. "No - well, not any out of the ordinary." Technically a certain masked man in a tuxedo would count as 'odd-acting stranger' at first. "Don't worry about that, after what I've heard about the Apothecary I'm perfectly content to set the next person they send on fire." She folds her arms and huffs - a little puff of breath steaming out in the cold January air.
Mai seems a bit indignant, moving to thoughtful - and then the HiME of the Wind comes up, and she settles on 'facepalm'. "Oh. Her." Aggravated noises in her throat, and then- "Funny-looking battle-axe, crazed historian. Did she pass on anything useful, or just boring lectures and making you check up on someone who claimed to be fine?"

Kinzo Hiroyuki laughs. "She actually didn't send me. She seems kind of concerned you didn't talk to her about it. She kind of came upon me when I was trying to figure something out in my head." he sighs a bit. "And the girls all seemed a little concerned, as I said. So I figured it was time to track you down again..."
He looks up at the clouds and frowns a little. He opens his Umbrella over himself, and you. In a few moments, it begins to actually rain and he sighs. "Though I picked a hell of a day to do it..." he says. He looks on over at you.
"Mai..what exactly is a 'HiME'?" he asks as he looks at you. "I mean. If you don't know, I could understand if you didn't. Hell. I barely know a lot about myself as it is." he says with a sigh a bit.

...it is beginning to rain, isn't it? Mai grumbles, but she doesn't have an umbrella - or rather she does, but back in her classroom. She mutters under her breath. "(Well, this is one way to cool off-)" And then, abruptly, she has an umbrella over her. She looks over to Kinzo in honest surprise. "...thanks."
She still doesn't feel hungry, so she tucks the bento box into a jacket pocket, and lets out a sigh as the rain begins to fall. Maybe it'll be a momentary storm, rather than one that just extinguishes all hopes of a nice day. "She's going to give me an earful, next chance she gets...eugh. I didn't want to concern her with something that didn't seem to be her problem, that's all. She's got enough going on with-" Mai cuts herself off, to protect that one's identity. Just in case.
...maybe Sugiura wears a mask or something.
"...anyway. Honestly, I don't have much of an idea - we've got weapons and guardians, got told that Orphans would show up and should probably be dealt with, and that's it." Her face darkens. "Not kidding on the 'probably', the guy with the info is the most hands-off little jerk this side of-"
Mai shakes her head. "Anyway. There's some...history thing going on, I think. Ancient ruins, yadda yadda, that HiME of the Wind is the one actively researching it. And the last time we talked, she hadn't figured much out." A small smile. "Sorry, looks like we're as bad off as the amnesiac heroes, some days."

Kinzo Hiroyuki finds that letting anyone get wet when talking to them is totally being a jerk at worst, and being ungentleman like at the best. He knew it was going to eventually rain. Also. He could smell it before it actually came down. Perfumers are weird...
He huhs. "Okay. I didn't really ask her, since. Well." he shrugs. "Rooftop meetings are always strange for me. I meet lots of others that way, strangely..."
He does manage a smile. "Well..for me and the other Perfumes it's less...Amnesia, and more trying to remember things that happened in another time and place." he admits. "We each have a little different. I kind of. Have dreams. or Nightmares. I'll remember a thing that way." he sighs and closes his eyes.
"Do you have odd dreams, too Mai?" he asks.

Regardless of gentlemen, Mai doesn't have a lot of experience sharing an umbrella with someone else - it's an awkward balance of trying not to get too close versus not going into the rain. Which is still light. She could probably make a run for it.
But that would be a bit rude. Best to actually talk a bit more. "You meet interesting people on rooftops." Abruptly, a mischievous smirk alights on her face. "A certain person tells me that ice cream mochi is appropriate while up there. Maybe try that next time?" The smirk turns into a grin.
That grin soon fades as Kinzo brings up the memories, dreams, nightmares. Odd dreams? Nightmares? Mai's mind goes briefly to that Maiden of Dreams, and her own anger in that confrontation...
"...nothing out of the ordinary. Nothing to give a clue as to what's going on, at any rate."

Kinzo Hiroyuki nods. "Hrm. Well. I'm sure you'll figure it out eventually, with your friend there looking into it. Surely there has to be SOME sort of.. anything about it somewhere." he sighs a bit. He looks up at the sky. Cold, wet, rain and he shakes his head. "I wonder why it's raining because of snowing. I hope that it's getting warmer... I can't wait for spring." he says. "Summer was. Way too hot." he ughs.
He looks over to Mai. "Look..um. Can I ask you an odd question Mai?" he asks. "It's a honest question.. but. You don't. Feel odd around me. Do you?" he asks. "It's a question I've been asking people. And my friends I asked took exception to it, but it comes from a remark well. Someone said to me." he admits with a frown.

...the issue of dreams seems to have been dropped. Mai doesn't quite breathe a sigh of relief, but it's a near thing. "I can only hope. Though so far, it hasn't been too bad, confusion aside. Some of the enemies I've hearing about seem more...personal than a rampaging Orphan." She looks to the rain. "Honestly, the forecast was going both ways - must not quite be cold enough yet. Could change by tonight, I guess."
She's a bit awkward here - without reason to get angry, nor enough excuse for cheer, there's just the two of them and an umbrella. Kinzo's question, however, has her face burn bright red for a moment in indignation - but Kinzo explains further, and her ire dies down. "...in all honesty, not really. You seem like an ordinary guy who makes the odd boneheaded misreading of a social cue, like 'don't lurk in dark alleys' - but as far as I can tell that just means 'ordinary guy'." She smirks, and folds her arms - bento still held in one hand. "That answer your question?"

Kinzo Hiroyuki notices that red face and kind of erks! "A-I didn't..mean it like that. Nrg---everyone I asked that too took it like... I was trying to..." he just shakes his head. "The original question asked to me was WAY more embarrasing. I guess I just suck at asking things." he sighs.
He laughs at Mai's statement. "I guess some of us are just kinda clueless sometimes. Guys. I mean. Sometimes we do stupid things, or can't read between the lines." he says a little with a minor blush, but manages to look up. "Well, I could apologize on our behalf." he says with a coy, perhaps playful smirk. "But I'm not exactly King of All guys over here." he says with a chuckle.
"Well. I'm glad that you're okay at least. But... well. We think the Apothecary might be making another move soon. So just be on the lookout, alright?" he asks.
He grins and offers the Umbrella. "Here. take this. I got a few of them at home after loosing my last. I'll try to visit the diner soon, too. Gonna have to anyways. Mom has a thing for the place you work." he says with a siiigh.

Mai actually laughs. "You really need to work on your wording, yeah. Give it some thought - but you covered your tracks well on that one. Well done." A grin emerges once more. "And that seems to be the case with guys I've met. You're doing well, though - at least, as long as you don't make a habit of telling girls that they smell 'delicious' or anything." Mai gives him a long, evaluating look.
The warning brings a look of grim determination to her face. "Thanks for that. And I really do mean that. I'm annoyed at being attacked in the first place, doubly so for it being at my workplace, and furious after hearing the kinds of things they do. So - give me a shout if you want backup. You should have my number, you are allowed to send text messages you know."
As for the umbrella...Mai's face burns red again. "Keep it - I just left mine in the classroom. Which..." The rain seems to be dying down - just a light sprinkling for the moment. "...is honestly close enough that I think I can make it before things get worse again." She stands, looking toward the building instead of toward her visitor.
"...let her know that I think the owner's planning on pasta specials next week." Bento in hand, Mai gives a quick wave, then bolts for the doorway. Hopefully she'll make it without getting too soaked.
