The Kindergarten was in full bloom. Two rows of perfectly planted flowers make a path to the entrance of the Gem Creature Sanctuary. Vines spread wildly along the ground, watermelons growing and swelling from them. The fields of grass and wildflowers wave in the wind. Amethyst stares at the beauty of it all, tears in her eyes as Rose Quartz places her hand on the violet Gem's shoulder.
And when Amethyst blinks, it is gone. The flowers. The watermellons. The fields. Rose. All gone. The tears in Amethyst's eyes remain.
"Some day," she mutters under her breath as she turns her back to her birthplace. She slowly walks away, leaving that dream behind for now. It was time to start smaller.
Why didn't anyone tell her that gardeners get to play with dirt? Amethyst would have started gardening a long time ago if she realized that! Away from the Kindergarten yet still barely within eyesight, Amethyst gets to work. Digging holes, planting seeds, covering them back up with dirt and fertilizer... it was all messy work. And that's the best kind of work. All the while, Rose Quartz watches her from within Amethyst's imagination.
"You could see the beauty in everything, couldn't you Rose?" Amethyst knows Rose could probably not hear her, but talking to her seems to help anyways. "You were awesome. You were also so very strong. I wish I were as strong as you. Like Steven would say... 'strong in the real way.' Your kid... he's doing great. He is so much like you, yet so very not you at all. I miss you, but also... thank you for Steven."
"Oh, I have a lot of new friends, too. Niramo, she was a bit shy when I first met her, but she burst out of her shell when I gave her a lesson in just following your feelings. I'm talking about dancing but that works for everything, right?"
"Kasagami... I still don't know too much about her but... she throws great parties. School dance, a VR thingy at an amusement park, stuff like that."
"Fuu is a blast to play video games with. She's nice and kind and sweet and all that, until you give her a controller. Then she's a beast!"
"And so many other friends. That's not counting all the girls I fight alongside, but I think you'd rather hear about the peaceful times. Oh right, I gotta water the plants!"
Amethyst takes the large jug of water she brought with her, and guzzles it down. She doesn't even stop to breathe; she doesn't need to. When the water is gone, Amethyst's body shifts and morphs, taking the form of a watering can with legs. She gives each plot of plants their own share of water from her long, hole-filled snout. Someday soon, this would be a beautiful field of violets, orchids, lilacs, heliotropes, lavender... and many rose bushes.
