"I'll get back up. I've got to, y'know? Someone with the proud Camry name can't let her friends down!"

Lera Camry is an exchange student enrolled in Infinity Institute's high school program. She plays the part of an American (though her acting skills are questionable), but she really comes from the alien world of Midchilda. She also maintains a secret identity as a magical girl. When she first came to Earth, she worked alone to recover Broken Ground, a stolen Intelligent Device that her mother made. Her mission was hard and took a toll on her, but with the help of her friends, her mother, and even some of her enemies, Lera learned to turn to others and have faith in herself. She is a skilled aerial mage who has partnered with Soaring Sky, a melee specialist Device originally repaired by her mother. Lera is a cheerful, sincere, and loyal girl who always tries to help others. She joined the Tuners Organization after they aided her and to support her friend who joined. Now that she has recovered Broken Ground and has no doubt of her mother's love and pride in her, Lera can live her dream of being a brave mage adventurer. She can discover what that dream really entails, while helping Soaring Sky discover his origins and find Broken Ground's chance for redemption.

Background and On-Game Events

Background

Lera was born on Midchilda to Meria Camry and her late husband; Lera's father died when she was only two, leaving her an only child. Her mother poured her energy into her, especially as her daughter was really all that was left of the life that Meria expected for herself.

Lera is a colossal disappointment to her mother. Meria Camry is a stunningly talented Midchildan Meister, who has created a number of Midchildan artifacts that have been praised across the planet and used by famous mages. Lera was expected to follow in her mother's footsteps, keep the family tradition alive, and eventually prove better than her mother. She grew up and immediately began being tutored in the magic needed to create Devices.

By the time that Lera turned twelve, everyone but Meria could see that her daughter was not destined to be a Meister. She didn't have the brain for magical engineering and the like; she could barely make a very basic Storage Device.

She showed much more skill at using Devices, truth be told. Her mother wasn't happy when she stopped learning how to create Devices and started learning to use them instead -- including combat applications. She considered a career with the TSAB, but decided a tour as a mage adventurer was more exciting. Her mother, naturally, was mortified and forbid it immediately.

Lera wasn't deterred. She decided that she needed to start practicing; after she turned fifteen, she planned to go whether she wanted to or not, and she snuck into her mother's workshop and found an Intelligent Device that she made: a dark red staff, with gold endings, named Soaring Sky. She started practicing with Soaring Sky; she developed a bond with the irritable, often arrogant Device. He pretended to think that she was an idiot, but a measure of mutual respect (or maybe mutual desire to annoy each other) developed.

Then, one day, her workshop was broken into and an Intelligent Device, Broken Ground, was stolen. Her mother found that Soaring Sky was taken, too; he was missing from his holding. Meria found out that her daughter had been practicing with it. She was livid; a great deal of shouting and arguing ensued.

A tracking device on Broken Ground let her trace the weapon to Earth. Meria had no paticular desire to admit that an Intelligent Device had been stolen and taken to another world with far more problems, especially to the TSAB. She reached a deal with her daughter: Lera was free to go to Earth, to be a mage adventurer, as long as she found and brought Broken Ground back within a year. Lera readily agreed to this task and her mother permitted her to take Soaring Sky with her.

She enrolled in Infinity Institute as a transfer student at the beginning of September, as a third year middle school student. She has used her Intelligent Device a couple of times since then, adding to the magical girls moving about, to help deal with a couple of troublesome youma.

Season 1

September 2013 - January 2014

Lera's pretensions at being American earned her a reputation at Infinity Institute. A lack of understanding of the Earth and so-so research on her supposed homeland made her standout. Nonetheless, she developed a friendship with Yukimi Amane despite a rocky start. She also worked against the youma, monsters, and other problems faced by the magical girls in Tokyo early in Fall.

Her Intelligent Device drew the attention of other wielders of Intelligent Devices, including the TSAB agent Alyce Ducati. Ducati questioned what she was doing there and quickly figured out the girl's Midchildan origins. However, Earth natives with Devices didn't figure out her alien origins immediately. She became friends with Ren Aizawa after cooperating with her several times early on. The discovery that Jewel Seeds, a form of Lost Logia, were loose on Earth motivated Lera to action and brought her in contact with Nanoha Takamachi.

Her mother expressed her discontent with these actions, though; in Meria's view, her daughter was gallivanting across a dimensional backwater rather than pursuing Broken Ground as she should. The tension between mother and daughter mounted in Fall. It left Lera increasingly discontent with her mother, who she felt simply did not understand her.

She decided in late Fall that she needed a cover identity as a magical girl; as a result, Magical Cheeseburger Propane-chan was born.

The falling of the star shards in winter drew Lera's attention, leading her to both help and run into conflict with her fellow magical girls. She discovered Yukimi was Lux Lapsa in the course of these events, and became an ally of her and Touka Chigami. She helped with the recovery of some shards, but also had a close brush with death when Qarzha, a demon from Waldia, nearly killed her to her force Fuu Hououji and other magical girls to give up their shard.

She happily joined the Sister Schools' winter trip to Hokkaido. She helped protect the dreaming magical girls while they resolved things in the dream world. She met Sailor Moon after she got back, too, forming a new parternship.

After the trip ended, the Jewel Seeds began to become more active. She worked with Ren, Endo Naoki, and Nanoha to subdue one that possessed a swan. While they succeeded, she also encountered Fate Testarossa here, a Device wielder pursuing the Jewel Seeds for her own ends. Lera asked her mother about the Jewel Seeds and mentioned the danger she found herself in, hoping to find a resolution. This frustrated her mother to no end, and she replied in the negative. Yukimi happened to read the message by mistake; after that, the two girls agreed to work together to find Broken Ground, and insure Lera could stay in Tokyo. However, from the contents of Meria's message, Yukimi also discovered Lera wasn't from Earth. Lera didn't realize at the time. They made plans to track down Broken Ground's tracking device, with the help of some friends.

Lera went after another Jewel Seed shortly after that, and ended up fighting Fate one-on-one. Fate managed to defeat her, but took her to the hospital after telling Lera her name. This action surprised her, but she was grateful. Fate later came back, with ice cream; Alyce Ducati was there at the time, also checking on Lera. An awkward face-off ensued, but it left Lera convinced that Fate wasn't such a bad person. She spoke with Nanoha later, and the two agreed to work together.

February - March, 2014

With the signal of the tracking device, Lera, Yukimi, Sailor Moon, Touka Chigami, and Kaitou Jeanne entered the sewers of Tokyo. They uncovered the device with a little trouble, that included an encounter with a hostile crocodile. From the tracking device, they discovered the identity of Broken Ground's thief: Lera's mother's former assistant, Jaren Zastava, a powerful mage in his own right. At the time, Lera hadn't quite realized -- and did not fully accept -- that Jaren had bonded with Broken Ground, and the stolen Device was no victim, but a willing partner in what was occurring.

The investigation into Jaren led Lera to find out that he had already attacked Ren, trying to steal her weapon for some secret employer. She told Ren and Endo about where she came from, with a little encouragement from Yukimi. They started looking for some sign of where Jaren was staying in Tokyo, though it failed to turn much up at first.

She decided to join the school play during the investigations. She met Mio Kuroki, the director of the theatrical adaptation of Dracula. Lera won the part of Quincy Morris, from Texas; her interpretation of Quincy was, suffice to say, not exactly accurate. The play also led her to become friends with Lucy Iwai, and meet Usagi Tsukino without quite realizing that she was Sailor Moon.

Working with Ren and Endo led her to become better friends with both. She found out that the two of them were dating at Tomoeda Amusement Park; when she discovered this with Nanoha and Fate, the three hid in a bush to watch them. When a Jewel Seed appeared, though, they fought over it to the delight of the amusement park's patrons, who thought it was a show. Fate was bothered by the fact that Lera and Nanoha played along (and the happy couple remained unaware), but then the mages had to work together when Signum and the other Wolkenritter attacked Clover Town. Lera and Fate managed to force the Knight backward.

Endo decided to talk to Lera afterward; she told him what she knew of Belka and his Device, though it was limited. The two became better friends, and some of Lera's doubts about him -- given his Ancient Belkan Device -- were assuaged, even if she didn't have many answers.

Her friendship with Lucy ultimately pushed her to join the Library Investigation Club, as the school year wrapped up. She went into one of the public delves into the library's dungeon, where she decided it was fun (even if someone playing a practical joke on the club wasn't so nice). After exams finished, Lera also discovered Yukimi's crush on Ikuto Tsukiyomi. She wasn't quite sure what to make of him, whether he was cool but distant or just a jerk. Her efforts to help Yukimi in pursuing him, though, were not quite effective.

She graduated middle school in late March. At the shared graduation among the Sister Schools, the ghost of a boy who never wanted to graduate captured Lera and other graduates in their doubts; Yukimi was able to break Lera free of that, with another message from her mother, this time showing her pride in her daughter. A few days later, Jaren resurfaced; he kidnapped Ren's older sister. While Lera, Ren, and Kuniko Saito forced him back, he managed to defeat Lera and she discovered his bond with Broken Ground.

She turned sixteen on April 1, at least as best as her mother could decide; she went to the amusement park with Yukimi and Lucy, riding roller coasters, watching boys, and forgetting their troubles for a little while.

April - August, 2014

Shortly after, Lera met a girl named Setsuna Higashi while shopping for sunglasses in Shibuya. She didn't manage to get the sunglasses then, having forgot her wallet; indeed, mysteriously, the sunglasses kept vanishing when she later went back. It was the start of an unlikely friendship, however! Lera and Setsuna would meet again later, when Setsuna read her fortune, and revealed that she would either help someone -- or fail them. This drove Lera to work harder for Fate's sake.

In the meantime, troubles continued with Fate and Jaren. Lera battled both a few times. Her and Yukimi fought Jaren at the botanical garden; he injured Yukimi there. She also grew to be closer to both Ren Aizawa and Endo Naoki, as they cooperated against Jaren. Unfortunately, Lera never managed to shake her guilt over the troubles that Jaren brought them. She also worked with them on collecting the Jewel Seeds, cooperating with Nanoha at the same time.

The lack of progress in helping Fate and recovering Broken Ground began to take its toll. This eventually became complicated by her friendship with Setsuna. First, Setsuna discovered that she was a magical girl, when Lera transformed in front of her to protect her against a wish-born calamity. She wasn't aware of the truth about Setsuna at the time. Later, when her and Setsuna spoke about it, some of Lera's troubles came to light; her feelings of inadequacy came out, which mysteriously resonated with Setsuna, and she shared more than she planned to with the younger girl.

After this, Nanoha hatched a plan to defeat Fate and settle the Jewel Seed situation: she would duel her and the winner took all. Lera gave over all of her Jewel Seeds to Nanoha for that end, along with Ren and Endo. Nanoha and Fate fought their duel at the Rainbow Bridge, but nothing went quite according to plan. Labyrinth showed up to cheer on Fate, include Eas. While Nanoha won, two things went awry: first, Fate's mother intervened and tried to kill her, and second, Homura Akemi appeared and stole the Jewel Seeds.

Lera tried to intervene, but Eas tackled her out of the air. The two girls crashed down together, where they argued and fought briefly. Nanoha resolved to keep trying, despite how much things hurt. The Tuners, with the assistance of Lindy Harlaown, conceived a plan to recover the Jewel Seeds from Homura. In doing so, Lera's friend Mami Tomoe (who she had befriended earlier) was hurt; Lera managed to rescue her and get her to safety, but not before she found out exactly how much pressure the Puella Magi was under.

Lera, Nanoha, and Lilian Abarth went to recover Fate from Labyrinth. They entered their mansion with a teleport spell; then they managed to convince Fate to come with them. This further incensed Eas and Soular. Shortly after that, Jaren Zastava reappeared -- this time with support from some mysterious drones. Jaren attacked Ren in Shibuya, using the drones to great effect. Lera was wounded badly and her pride hurt worse. As she crawled off, she ran into Setsuna. She worried the girl with her insistence that she had to fight.

She began to feel the pressure on her was too much. When Fate learned that her mother hated her and didn't consider her real, it sent her into a catatonic state. Lera's words didn't reach her at the time. Still, she agreed to go to the Garden of Time and stop Precia from using the Jewel Seeds to go to Al-Hazard (and likely destroy the Earth in doing so). Before she did, she spoke with Setsuna, who gave her the sunglasses that she had been looking for. With that, Lera took off to the Garden of Time.

She found and fought Eas there. Eas, using a device created by Precia Testarossa, managed to injure Lera badly; however, Kyouko Sakura, Ren, and Lilian managed to destroy the Jewel Seed-powered armor. Lera rescued Eas from it before it could explode, pulling her free. Fate arrived after that, having remembered the words Lera and Nanoha said to her, and restored their mana. After that, they battled Precia, and managed to seal away the Jewel Seeds. Lera felt a weight off her shoulders; however, when she found Eas in the park afterward, the girl was furious with Lera for saving her. They argued and fought once again.

Fate and Nanoha, though, reconciled at the marina when everything was said and done. Lera witnessed that, and it took no small amount of pressure off her.

Afterward, Lera enjoyed a brief respite, though she encountered some troubling things. First, she went out to have fun with Setsuna, but realized that something was strange about the younger girl when she asked what it was like to have a mother. Their conversation led Setsuna to pass out; Lera ultimately took her back to her dorm, so she could recuperate. Setsuna left awkwardly. She talked with Fate, too, and settled things with her. This inspired her to work harder, to try to settle the situation with Jaren; as she trained, and reached a dead end, she encountered Eas, who made her question herself -- and made Lera began to fear that Eas would give her life up in service to Labyrinth.

Finally, though, a breakthrough happened: she found the location of Jaren's apartment. She promised Ren and Endo to not go alone, and so she and Sailor Moon broke in. They recovered a USB key, which contained information about a Lost Logia that Jaren had. Lera promptly began searching for it; she instead encountered Eas at a temple. The two argued there again, this time about Eas's fight with Fate. Lera lost her temper at her, and the two talked about Eas's belief that she didn't care what happened to her, with Lera affirming a promise made last time: to try to find something that Eas could smile about.

The next day, Lera went back to the temple. She encountered Setsuna there; when she spoke briefly with Lera, she ran off crying. Before Lera could chase after, Sky told her that Jaren and his drones attacked the marina. They rushed in, in time for Jaren to raise the Lost Logia known as the Guardian of Ten-Thousand Points, or Citadel. Citadel and Jaren teleported off. Lera succumbed to her anger, outraged that she had failed again, and chased after Jaren. She fought him -- and lost. Soaring Sky was broken, and Jaren pitched Lera off a building. Eas, who had been watching, caught her and took her to safety. Lera almost gave up, but Eas managed to convince her that she would get back up. Eas, however, tried to ward her off by revealing her secret identity: Setsuna Higashi. It didn't work.

Afterward, Lera went to Lindy Harlaown's home. She spoke with Fate, who agreed to help her recover Sky. Then she spoke with her mother, who surprised her by visiting Tokyo to check on her. They worked out much of their issues; Lera discovered that Meria had always been proud of her. Meria gave her a program to help empower Soaring Sky; she also helped design Storage Devices to stop Citadel. Jaren then tried to get Souverain Heraut from Ren, but failed; Citadel decided to return to his home, Ancient Belka, by activating a barrier around Tokyo Tower. If successful, it could have teleported Tokyo Tower and the vicinity into space -- all to return to a home long destroyed.

In the end, they managed to stop Jaren from doing this. Ren, with the help of Endo, Lilian, Cure Sword, Masque Feu, Fuu Hououji, and Hikaru Shidou, managed to stop Citadel. It required Ren activating a Rare Skill that merged her Linker Core with Heraut's core. Lera and Fate fought Jaren; with Fate's aid, Lera recovered and upgraded Soaring Sky into Soaring Sky Perihelion. Then, Lera managed to defeat Jaren, who cursed even Ground when he started to lose. Jaren crawled off, leaving Broken Ground behind. Lera recovered him, while Citadel -- with the truth revealed and thoroughly beaten -- was turned into a small puppy-like form.

Lera accomplished her mission nearly a year after she arrived, with the help of the friends that she had learned to rely on. She joined the Tuners Organization, to help look after Fate, and promised to go with Fate on her first day of school. She was left, though, with the task of rehabilitating Broken Ground -- and finding out the truth of Soaring Sky's origins, as he remembered awaking fifteen years ago amidst a cache of Belkan artifacts...

Powers and Abilities

Lera is a Midchildan mage. She can utilize magic through a Device; the partnership of this Device is critical to using her magic.

The Device that she has had since she was thirteen is named Soaring Sky. She has a close bond with Sky and he is, without a doubt, one of her closest friends and confidants. More than that, Lera is able to draw on Soaring Sky to cast powerful magic. Sky is a rebuilt Armed Device, turned into an Intelligent Device; he uses a customized Midchildan style for powerful magical melee attacks and some ranged blasts. Soaring Sky has since been upgraded into Soaring Sky Perihelion, which increases his flight spell capabilities and his melee components. He normally is called Soaring Sky.

She can also perform some basic magical tricks and spells. Soaring Sky is capable of broadcasting a two dimensional hologram of data that he scans. This can be used to display maps and the like. Lera can also make a light orb appear, levitate small items, and other basic magical tricks. These can be performed in Standby Mode, in which Soaring Sky takes the form of a dark red writing pen.

Lera can make Soaring Sky change into two different combat modes. Gladiator Form is when Lera splits him into two swords. Striker Form is when Lera combines the two swords into a bastard sword-sized weapon. Both forms can emit fields of plasma and energy blasts. Her barrier jacket in these mode emphasizes speed and impact power over defensive capabilities. Her spells include:

Spell System Category Type Description
Aura Surge Midchildan Attack Melee Soaring Sky's blade flashes a brilliant white on impact.
Bind Break Midchildan Support Decline Anti-bind rings appear and disable any binds on Lera.
Inferno Slasher Midchildan Attack Melee Soaring Sky shoots a point-blank fire explosion off from his blade.
Jet Ignition Midchildan Attack Melee Lera creates a plasma aura around herself, then rams an enemy at supersonic speeds.
Plasma Bind Midchildan Capture Bind Rings of energy appear around an opponent's limbs.
Rapid Skyfall Midchildan Attack Melee While in Gladiator Form, Lera does three quick strikes with Sky's twin blades.
Sentinel Flash Midchildan Defense Shield A bright cross-shaped flash appears in front of Sky, intercepting melee strikes.
Arc Breaker Midchildan Attack Melee Soaring Sky ignites with a massive plasma storm, then strikes twice before releasing the energy as an explosion.
Aurora Burst Ray Midchildan Attack Bombardment Soaring Sky splits in two, building a powerful charge, and releases a large purifying burst of energy.
