"Everyone thinks I don't listen to classical music. I mean, take a look at me. It's so unexpected, people really start to respect me for it!"
A brash, saucy tomboy with a penchant for melodramatic humor, Sayaka Miki feeds her bountiful energy with occasional naps in class. Neither a magical girl nor particularly promising material for one, she seems happy in her normal life attending Ohtori, playing softball, and pursuing her top-secret crush, who she is certain requires her love and attention in his dark hour. For a girl with no powers or martial skills, she is remarkably willing to leap into action when there's trouble, and there often is, because her best friend Madoka is very popular lately.
Relationships
Madoka Kaname – Sayaka's best friend in the world, and future wife. Monsters seem to like her pink hair or something, because every time Sayaka takes her eyes off her, Madoka seems to get in trouble again. Despite all the growing up they've shared, they haven't had much in the way of deep, reflective conversation; they've both seemed content to just have fun most of the time. There's nothing romantic about this bond, but Sayaka's still going to marry her, big time.
Hitomi Shizuki – Sayaka's other best friend. Sayaka adores Hitomi, and takes vicarious pride in how beautiful, elegant, and popular with boys she is. Sayaka lionizing Hitomi's charm and Hitomi primly but happily demurring is a sort of running joke between them, and Sayaka enjoys having Hitomi around as a straight man when she is playing clown.
Miki Kaoru - An old family friend. Though they have much in common (a love for classical music, short blue hair, the name "Miki"), Sayaka finds his overserious demeanor boring, and treats him with the rough affection of an older sister. His talent with the piano, however, is precious to her, and she has spent many hours listening to him play. Recently, however, someone attacked him, intentionally crippling his hand and ruining his ability to play music. The feeling of profound loss has crushed Sayaka harder than she'd have expected, and she has shifted to treating Miki with worried gentleness.
Mami Tomoe - Their super-cool senpai has saved Sayaka and Madoka several times already, and always does it with dazzling panache. Sayaka would love to hang out with her more, but suspects she is already testing Mami's patience for lame underclassmen by learning about Witches and magic from her. Someone as gorgeous, smart, and competent as Mami probably has friends (and boyfriends) coming out her hair-drills.
Homura Akemi - Despite her initial awe at this transfer student's confidence, beauty, and absurd scholastic talents, Sayaka has been souring on her rapidly. Despite her gratitude for Homura's repeated and timely protection (not all of which she's aware of due to Homura's humility), she finds the black-haired Puella Magi creepy, and is suspicious of her intentions regarding Madoka.
Kyouko Sakura - Another on the long list of magical girls who Sayaka owes for saving her life, but one Sayaka can't seem to feel grateful to. Half the things that come out of her mouth annoy Sayaka, and her hostility to the idea of Sayaka contracting confirmed Sayaka's suspicious of her selfish nature.
Eri Shimanouchi - Sayaka suspects this green Puella Magi prefers plants to people, which is kind of adorable. Her tenderness to flowers and her shy earnestness makes her seem like a good person to Sayaka, but she doesn't know her too well yet.
Mysterious Man - An orange-haired villain who appeared from nowhere to attack poor Miki for some unnamed sin. Sayaka's helplessness to prevent the maiming that resulted from this attack tortures her, and she nurses a deep resentment toward this stranger.
